Thanks for posting this video. So many people see a talented person (musician, athlete, etc.) and think "How lucky they are to be so talented." They don't see the hard work needed to make that talent reality. It's super obvious that Ellen is talented. All those other struggling young musicians out there need to see that she has that talent because she puts in the hard work. Music rewards the steady hand. The true blessed part is the joy you all seem to find in the work/play/life. That's always the best, isn't it?

Ellen, you don’t select easy pieces to work out. You really challenge yourself with cool, complex bass lines. Your tenacity is impressive and I’m looking forward to hearing the end results of your efforts! Thank you for sharing this snippet of your process with us! 🎶🎵🎶

“we’re not worthy, we’re not worthy”,,,, Ellen…you are one very impressive intriguing female. You have made “yourself”. I once tried to just learn a riff from Jaco; went crazy not for me. But you, I have been following you for over a year and can not think of the million plus words that describe you. Keep going your way you paint a beautiful future for yourself. Proud of you.

Ellen should be on 2 posters..One for adorable and the other for determined. I have never seen anyone at any age want to perfect her craft like she does. I hope I will be around when she celebrates decades as the top performing bass player. I mean this.

@@greer2402 About 100% of great players have done that, no matter what instrument. There might be a few super talented, who never had to practice with 100% dedication, but they are rare. But I really love watching how much Ellen wants this herself, and how happy she is when she gets things right. Don't ever lose that.

Just amazing how talented she is at such a young age. I didn’t even start playing til I was about 12 and I wouldn’t have been even have been able to attempt a Jaco song back then. Heck I hadn’t even heard of him at that point. I was still fumbling around on things like smells like teen spirit at that age.

This is by far my favorite bass line to play on my bass❤
@edwinstovall33348 ай бұрын
I came onto playing bass only for a little while in my twenties, I've played guitar for over 50 years and have always had a good appreciation for a good bass line -- as befits someone who grew up while James Jamerson was still helping to put the Funk in the Brothers. One album that always stood out to me for its innovative bass playing seems more than a little unlikely -- "What Cha' Gonna Do for Me" by Chaka Khan. My particular recommendation is the song "I Know You, I Live You." Mr. Anthony Jackson must really have been feeling it on that cut. Full Disclosure: If I recall correctly, Mr. Jackson is credited with playing something called a "contrabass" on that song and others. This album was released in 1981, so there was little to no information of this nature available anywhere that I could get to. The Internet was just getting started at that point and was almost entirely text-based, which meant typing commands on your keyboard rather than pointing at things and then pressing a button. A quick search today turned up a photo of an Anthony Jackson signature electric contrabass guitar, which has 6 strings. If you decide to try to learn this tune but find 4 strings too limiting, you might try using an octave divider or a Whammy pedal set to drop your bass' pitch one octave. Mr. Jackson uses the extra range on that instrument to get DOWN!

It’s the ghost notes that get you. They don’t just go ‘Pp’, they last a specific length of time and if you play them too short or too long the piece doesn’t swing. Jaco Pastorius is a lifetime’s work, a labour of love.

You are an INCREDIBLE bass player and the way you enjoy learning and playing always with that smile (even on mistakes. You are amazing) makes me wanna play trying to have that much fun that you are having (which is veeery hard to do for me but i will keep trying hehe) Keep doing that great work in that fun way! Always keep that big smile while learning and playing and you will be great! Greetings from Argentina 😊 P.S: I'm 31 years old and im making music since a very young age too, And is hard to keep me motivated and have fun with it. But it's like Victor Wooten said: You with that fun you are having, are making us adults to remember that music has to be fun. That is named PLAYING music, not working music. And we have to relax a little (or a lot) and just have fun with it so i will try to do that more. 😊
