The Assumption Method (Singapore Math Problem Solving made easy!)

This video introduces the Assumption method (also known as the Supposition Method). Known to be a better alternative to the Guess and Check method learnt in Primary 3, this is one of the key Singapore Math Problem Solving technique that students need to grasp regardless of whether you are in Primary 4 (p4) , Primary 5 (p5) or Primary 6 (p6). Although the Assumption Method can be very useful in solving Guess and Check questions, it can still be complicated to some students. If you are one of them, don't worry, help is here! =)
In order to help you learn how to use the Assumption Method better, we will first study what the Assumption method is and identify the type of Math questions that we can use it for.

We will be looking at what the Assumption Method is, learn how to identify the type of Math questions that uses it and then move on to getting to know the steps of the Assumption method. To make things easier for you, we'll use a simple mnemonic to help us remember the steps that are involved. With that, we can Assume the right item, Multiply, find the Extra, find the Differences and finally, obtain the Opposite item to help us solve our Math problem sums/word problems.
As a bonus, we'll also learn how to check our answers by working backwards to make sure they are correct!
