Thank you! The first time I have found an explanation for the two ways to pronounce the French "plus"! I have asked and searched, and the brilliant Alexa has provided it here. She is the best on the internet! (Btw, Jane Straus' Blue Book of Grammar says that in our English crazy language, we break the objective-pronoun rule when a pronoun follows "than." Hence, it would be, "She is prettier than I." In other words, ask yourself which pronoun you would use if you completed the clause. "She is prettier than me is" or "She is prettier than I am"? Obviously, the second is correct, so the correct abbreviated expression is, "She is prettier than I.") Also, I do realize this: Alexa est plus intelligente que moi. Lol.

Hi Alexa Aunty.. I just want to say that you are an exemplary French tutor.. I love your videos and it has helped me a lot in my studies.. Actually, I have a doubt: The word for rapid is rapide, but why did you write Rapidement. And also, if you want to conjugate, Elle is in the 2nd person form, so will it not be Rapide?

Bonjour Alexa. Merci pour une autre fantastique leçon. With the "Tom is smaller than me" example, why did you use PLUS QUE instead of MOINS QUE. Smaller equals LESS doesnt it. ? Wouldnt the correct phrase become, "Tom est moins petit que moi"? Can you please explain why you used PLUS?
@mrsladybug10135 жыл бұрын
Think about like this moins means negative petit means negative together it makes positive so to mean negative we have to use positive and negative as plus petit
@bottleofwater16755 жыл бұрын
In French as well and Spanish positive + positive doesn’t mean negative, and negative + negative doesn’t mean positive, not as English, greetings!
@richardpoland40742 жыл бұрын
Hi Alexa, I really appreciate how you explain the rules of the French language, which can be very difficult to understand. I do have a question regarding the comparisons in this video. Not sure why you used "plus petite" in referring to Tom and I, i.e. Tom is smaller than I. I would have thought you would write the sentence as "Tom est moins petite que moi? Not understanding why you used "plus petite" instead of "moins". I thought you used plus for superiority?
@saanyasheth91232 жыл бұрын
he is smaller, which means he has a greater magnitude of smallness.. so basically his smallness is 'superior' to Alexa's, which is why she used 'plus'
