I assemble the valve train and intake tubes. We look at the issue of a suitable propeller.

I'm so pleased to have found your channel it is fascinating! As a side, many years ago back in the 90's I wrote to Fred Clutton in the States and bought his modest book "An Aeroplane called FRED" it is a fantastic read and very funny. I throughly recommend it .

Google Everel Propeller… single blade props exist. Can’t imagine flying behind one.

Thank you, I knew they existed but not the name. A quick search revealed lots of interesting info.

Promised Propeller Prefabrication - Perfect 👍 Very nice landing at the end there.

Thank you, the airstrip is pretty smooth; not so easy to get a greaser at Bodmin as it's rougher and tufty in places.

Some quirky but now classic model aeroplanes were also designed by Eric Clutton. Think he’d have been an intersting character to know.

I bought the booklet directly from him, around 2010. He was living in Tennessee and I sent him a letter and a few bucks. The reply, containing the booklet and a very jolly note, made me chuckle for weeks. He was a splendid fellow!

Karls comment below --'continue to amuse, captivate and educate' exactly sums up my feelings too. Great stuff Nick. No detail is too trivial for we old timer enthusiasts. I continue to be impressed with the precise functionality of this engine's componentry.

Thank you, it's good fun putting the films together. The Aeronca and Jap versions are equally as delightfully built; the 'late' plain bearing big ends are far superior to the earlier loose roller version. An awful lot of unnecessary mechanical commotion and the steel on steel bearing needs perfect cleanliness for reliability.

I’ve got that book by Eric Clutton around here somewhere too! He used to write about model planes as well and particularly diesel model engines. Good stuff.

Excellent Nick, look forward to the prop construction, always fancied having a go myself. You've successfully distracted me from loading the car with tools etc to take up to WW tomorrow to do my annual check and prep for the PTF inspection on Tuesday.

Splendid, yes, prop construction will start very soon. Not sure how many episodes as yet, the general plan is to get the drawings done this week and then get on with the job in mid April. I have to do a couple of weeks proper work first.

Cylinder base gasket is not fitted, or have I missed something?

I don’t use them on the Praga or the Aeronca JAP; metal to metal with the thinnest smear of red Hylomar works a treat. Base gaskets need to be thin.

Your videos continue to amuse, captivate and educate! 🙂 (I wonder how many "modern" mechanics actually know what a set of water pump pliers are?) Pity your propeller is a bit uneven, which reminds me of a myth or legend from the Ontario North, about a bush pilot who made a bit of a rough landing in the middle of nowhere and destroyed the prop on his J-3. Being a clever and handy fellow, he was able to carve himself a new one from a spruce tree and successfully take off and return home. I'll be following your prop making endeavour with great attention! Thanks for the continuing story of the Praga - she's starting to very much resemble a complete engine once again!

Thank you! I'm pleased you continue to enjoy my humble offerings; the motor was a sorry looking thing a while back and the transformation has been very satisfying. Having watched many backwoodsman films on KZbin I reckon a skilled man could make himself an emergency propeller; after all, I'm about to embark on a series showing an idiot making one!
