+1 for Shahi Indian ! Really cosy restaurant and the owner is super sweet. Food is amazingly flavorful and appropriately spiced (if you're an Indian, you can ask the owner to make it "Indian" spicy and he'll gladly do that). Would recommend the vegetable samosa, the chicken biryani and the karhai chicken/paneer

My favorite Italian restaurant in Prague is called "Nominanza". Excellent food and service, and very reasonable prices. Go to tram stop Olšanské náměstí in the Žižkov area, and walk up the entrance to the Hotel Olšanka Congress Center complex. Nominanza is immediately to your left. From the same tram stop, climb the (steep!) Kubelíkova past the Albert grocery store with “Bezovka” in large white letters on the side to the Palác Akropolis. You’ll find U Mariánského Obrazu restaurant and bar on the opposite corner of Fibichova. Wonderful Czech food at surprisingly low prices! Mostly locals there, and a few tourists who know where to go.

Years ago I went to a restaurant in Prague on the 2nd floor of a square. The restaurant was also part of a very expensive foodwares store. It was where all the politicians and bigwigs went, and super-expensive. So, I went at lunch. Saved a lot of money and had one of the most memorable meals of my life. They brought put a huge white truffle, weighed it with white-gloved hands, and then shaved it into the soup until I said to stop. Then they weighed it again, and on my bill the soup was charged by truffle weight. I have no idea what truffle weighs… It was one of those ‘if you had to ask, you couldn’t afford it’ kind of splurges, so I indulged a little. 😊 Definitely worth the stupendous price. Wish I could remember the name of the place.

about the Indian food, i think the main reason why vindaloo hurts and ppl need to be warned is cos its actually Indian meal, a recipe from the OG India( there may be some other influences, obviously, colonisation and trade happens), and chicken tikka masala is safe and fave among Europeans cos is genuine British meal, first cooked in postwar UK, not in colonial India, but created not so long ago by Indian immigrants to suit tastes of their British customers. Chicken tikka masala is just as traditionally Indian as trdelnik or medovnik are traditionally Czech just FYI.

Great list that I will share with family when they arrive in June! I would like to add a great place if you like schnitzel or řizek in Czech: Řizek od Babičky in Karlin on Karlinske Namesti between Sokolovska and Křižikova. Homemade schnitzel and fresh potato salad. They have pork, chicken, turkey, and veal schnitzel as well as smaženy syr (fried cheese) all for between 4.70 - 6.28 euros and the potato salad is only .79 euros. It's a very small place, only seating about 8 - 12 people at 3 tables, and they're only open from 10 am - 4 pm M-th (2pm on Fridays). So expect to get the food as take-away. But, be aware, I don't remember if they take credit cards, and they don't speak English so be prepared to use Google Translate.

Vindaloo being too spicy does throw up a question though: Is it too spicy because you never eat spicy stuff or is it too spicy even for a chili-lover? I ask because Indian restaurants have a big range and sometimes the 3-chili recipes still aren't that spicy because they think no European can take it, while others will blast you like it's mixed with Ghost Peppers
