Thaipusam is a popular annual foot procession, and holds significance as a sacred Tamil thanksgiving festival. According to Tamil folklore, it is celebrated to honour Lord Murugan (also known as Lord Subrahmanya), who represents virtue, youth and power, and is the destroyer of evil.
