One thing I suggest for beginner riders for moving the bike in first gear is to give a little bit of acceleration before releasing the clutch. In few bikes the bike doesn't move just by releasing clutch specially in 125 cc category. So just give a bit of acceleration and release clutch slowly when the bike start moving ahead, then release more clutch and accelerate more in same amount.

I didn't even have the confidence to ride my own bike from showroom to my home. But as the time passed I started following Prak sir's videos. And now I can ride quite confidently.

Yes you can downshift while standing still, but I would suggest always try to downshift while slowing down and when you finally stop you should be either in Neutral or First gear based on where you are stopping. The more you practice, the more confidence you will get in slowing down in traffic lights, etc.
