Please see "The Black Watch 3 SCOTS homecoming parade around the City of Perth, Scotland, Sept 2018 ". It should give bagpipe bands in India an idea how far they have deviated from the original bagpiping as seen in many other countries, especially in Britain and Europe.

Read about the colonial history and the stupid baggage left behind by the colonizers/morons. Also, this is a performance by school kids and not the Army. Also, they don't have to adhere to colonial or British standards or any standards for that matter. Centuries of colonization was an insult, not this.

Despite the cheering of excited girls, I fail to understand much of the actions that this band displays. Hopping about, kicking legs high, swaying sideways, and sudden turns with the leader walking forwards robot-style are all very, very strange. At 8.58 they are dancing ! Why have the Gurkhas deviated so much from the bagpipe bands of Scotland and much of Europe ?
@warden23516 жыл бұрын
Good question! So much of Indian Army foot-drill has changed to these ridiculously exaggerated moves that have no military precedent e,g, high-kicking, excessive arm-swinging and unnecessary swaying, pausing and stamping, not to mention garish embellishments of unform which have no martial precedent. All of this is so much at variance with the drill and parade-ground ceremonial of the old Indian Army and the British Army they learned their trade from that one can only assume that these developments express some kind of attempted modern individualism. Whatever the intent, they are far from smart, dignified or military and - like the near-comic daily Punch & Judy show at the Wagah Border Crossing closing ceremony - causes the forces (in this case paramilitary) of both India and Pakistan to be regarded derisively. And don't get me started on the poor standard of military music in armed forces bands in the whole sub-continent. Sadly, many famous regiments are ill-served by poor-standards of military music. Consideration should be given to conducting a review of military ceremonial preferably by an external professional. This may attract some defensive reaction induced by local loyalty rather than detached introspection bur, ust a hint: the British Army's Brigade of Guards is the gold standard for military ceremonial.
@jeyapaulsamathanam70576 жыл бұрын
I would like the bands in India and Pakistan to watch "The Black Watch 3 SCOTS homecoming parade around the City of Perth, Scotland, Sept 2018 " There are many more like them that send shivers down my spine when I am watching them. Another is "Massed Pipes and Drums Parade". Their dressing, piping and marching is sheer perfection.

Not even Assam regiment. Its some middle to high school kids . This is common in West Bengal and in Assam where there are lots of Nepali's who still keep the British(Scottish) tradition alive with their own local style. EDIt: Btw there are 3-4 battalions of Gurkhas in Assam regiment. Assam Regiment is considered as Parliamentary force (not army). As you can see, most steps and music including the khukuri dance is copied from the British Gurkhas rather than Indian Gurkhas (or even Gurkhas from Assam Regiment).
