Brings back lots of memories, bottle feeding 9, developed a system quite quickly; two at a time...😰🤗 Left my hangers in the feed room, never thought about using them as a carrier.
@PrattFamilyHomestead4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. We are actually gonna start leaving the hangers probably when we move them out. Maybe?? We could always just carry 3 bottles in a bucket or something. But also I assume pretty soon they will be drinking out of buckets.

Bottle calves are so fun to raise. I like the smell of the milk replacer. I always mixed the water and milk replacer in a large measuring cup first then poured it into the bottles. I always felt like it didn’t dissolve as well buy just adding it straight to the bottle. But like I always say do what works for you. We had some bottles like the ones you have, there were some that worked better than others. We ended up getting the bottles with the snap on lids. They seemed to work better then the others. Bottle calves are enjoyable to raise. I always looked forward to feeding them. In a few weeks you’ll be able to switch them to a bucket for their. They drink the milk from the bucket really fast. Your done with feedings in no time. Good luck. They drool a lot, they are cows :) Thanks for sharing. Take care, see ya :)

My friend's little girl used to eat milk replacer when she was around 2. Her beautiful blond hair got fuller and had a more beautiful shine to it when she ate the replacer... just a thought here, but maybe Mr. Pratts beard could use a diet of milk replacer. LOLOLOLOL Your Calves look Great. Most awesome family project. Building great memories for your children

I don't know if you do it now, but I've heard from my grandparents that adding Apple Cider Vinegar to the mixture helps with the scour (Diarrhea)

What my dad used to do is make a small x cut at the end of the nipple .....just cut the hole at the end of the nipple just a little at a time cause if too much they can choke. If they bump......they need bigger flow obviously. My dads last start up with cows he said was his cheapest.........bought a shorthorn cow that was pregnate and pulled the heffer calf and milked the mom morning and night..... local dairys were giving bull calves so he would get all he could. First year he was bottle feeding 15 calves and second year 25. Hed raise the calves up till fall then trade 2or 3 bull calves for a bred cow.........in 4 years he had 44 head of adult cows able to breed not counting thier calves or the bull. Only thing it cost him was one $1200 cow and the rest was time. And fuel to hay. You still planning on not haying? Depending on costs this year with this virus......having hay might pay off but i could be wrong.

KUDOS PRATTS! Aren't babies sweet? I never minded bottle feeding them. Do you know if they were able to nurse from the Mama's at all? Colostrum is so important for them to get right off the bat. However y'all are doing an amazing job with them. Do you think the kids might like to show a calf/steer or heifer at the fair? Ours did, grandkids too. Lots of hard work for sure! We are looking forward to seeing them grow up. BTW, Jeni how do you like your ULU knife? I noticed that you have one. I love mine. That booger is SHARP!!!
@PrattFamilyHomestead4 жыл бұрын
We are not 100% sure about them being on mama at all. Also, the kids would probably like to show them ..... if we even have a fair this year :( And we really like the Ulu knife.

Milk replacer does smell good. Calves fighting for a bottle can get messy.

We haven't had any big issues ....... yet. But I think I will put something in place to feed them separately.

I don't believe there is auctually a household in the whole United States that doesn't have a funnel. If I didn't see it I wouldn't of believed it.😅 Very cute calves though, make your kids feed them and clean up after them, don't forget to wipe them😂😂😂😂 not the mouthe the other end, or you can lick like there mommy would of done😅😅😅😅😅😅 ha ha
