Dawn of Man is a prehistoric colony builder! Starting in the paleolithic era, our early humans will struggle to survive with sticks and stones; but over time as their understanding grows, new tools and domestications will completely change their way of life. In this playthrough, we'll be playing on a temperate forest river map as an introduction to the game. Our settlers have decided to call their new home Gruntings. Can they build a new civilization?

@@nuclearlefthook5008 Not particularly dangerous? The first prerequisite for hunting wild boar is the ability to climb on trees. The second prerequisite is a firearm. Tips for the Paleolithic Era: You will want the following early: Composite tools Dog training Food drying Funerals if you lose someone while hunting For settled start on Normal mode: First gather 15 sticks Build two skins dryers straight away, and a 3rd tent. Then build a crafting tent. Then set 3 people to gather sticks until you have 20, two to gather flint until the resource runs out, and only gather one pile nearby. Set your wood storage and stone storage next to the crafters shop. If you did this away from the default wood storage area, recycle the default one to optimise pathing. Build as many spears as you have adults. Once all adults have a wooden spear, take every adult and send them hunting. Keep the children on stick duty. Once you have enough skins to fill both skin dryers, send one adult fishing over 2 or 3 sections of river. Send the rest back out hunting again. By now you should have spirituality, and have placed at least 1 skull pole. Once you have enough skins, build a storage tent. If you've been playing efficiently, you should now be entering late spring and should be getting ready to stop collecting sticks with children, as they're going to be busy collecting berries all summer. Only 1 child should be collecting sticks. The adults should continue to hunt or build, depending on access to skins. Keep building tents, even when you don't need them yet. Every building is worth prestige. Prestige increases the frequency of trader visits, raises your birthrate, and also makes immigration more frequent and also makes more people arrive. Once you get your first group of immigrants, start collecting flint regularly with 1 settler, fishing with another, and keeping the rest hunting. Once you can keep two skins dryers filled 24/7, build two more. By early Fall you also want to get food drying going, and build 2 food dryers. One on meat and fish, the other on raw meat only. Once you get 12 people, you will want to set up as follows: 3:25 sticks, 2:10 flint, 1:12 fish, 2 crafting, 3 hunting, dropping to 1 for sticks and flint and no fish in the summer. You use summers to replenish the fish stocks. This means 1 person is free, so you don't hit 100% workload. Build bifaces and spears for everyone older than child, and make sure to always have spare clothes for immigrants or wear and tear. Keep building tents. Lots of tents. Once your population hits 24, have 5:50 sticks, 6 people hunting, 4:25 flint, 2:12 fishing (except summer, when you basically go all hands to berries and fruit including all but 1 stick gatherer and flint gatherer) 2:15 stone, 4 crafting in two different shops and 1 person going round cutting down Birch and Beech trees. Keep this ratio until you hit 30 people, when you want to begin increasing the size of your hunting party. Keep gathering skins and making tents. Make sure you have at least 10% of your population worth of skull poles, and half as many burial grounds as dead settlers. Once you have 40 people, get Pottery. With a lot of hunting and efficient resource gathering, you should be entering your 4th year as you enter the Mesolithic Era. You have plenty of people to hunt, and plenty of prestige. Your economy is strong, and you're ready to push to 100 settlers, using your children as sticks gatherers, skin carriers and waterbearers. The adults just hunt, build and craft. Mainly sledges for a while. You want 3 sledges for every 4 people. Now you can gather much more stuff, your building materials and skins can be accrued by fewer people, so you have more people for hunting, building and crafting. Keep making as many skin dryers as you need. If you can keep all your dryers filled all the time, you need to build more.

I'm So glad your playing this game. Its one of my favorites but I'm not the greatest at it. i have a bad habit of trying to get big population before i have the food or clothes for them and the ether starve or die of hypothermia. A little tip you need at least 5-6 adults with bone or flint spears or bows to go after a mammoth and if there is more than one adult don't attack cause you'll aggro all the adults the baby just run and that goes for aurocs and bison

Kids gather sticks, loose flint, water, plants and will pick up and deliver goods. I try to keep them busy close to camp to stop them from wandering past that den of hungry cave lions to get a single bone Groelk left behind. The best way to do that is too give them lots of the jobs they can do by camp and pacing myself on the hunting. Not 100% but it helps.

01:11 “Rudimentary language” dude! Anatomically modern humans have existed for 200,000 years. They had the exact same complexity of speech as us! Take Göbekli Tepe - a 12 000 year old temple complex. To organise hundreds of hunter gatherers over generations to lug stones and build that with “rudimentary” speech is insane.

@@thegoldenking225 Indo-European was spoken more than 6000 years ago and it was more complex then Modern English. Hell, Old English was more complex than Modern English. Also, languages change over time, once again, look at Old English compared to Modern English. Old English had a complex case ending system which does not exist today. However, Modern English has more tenses then Old English.

The key is domesticating animals as quickly as possible, once you do that you'll never be short of meat again. Also, don't build more walls than you absolutely need, too much workload and your villagers will ignore vital tasks and even eating to work on some wall or tower until they starve 😖

12,000 years ago people had complex languages capable of symbolic abstraction up to and including some complex spiritual and religious beliefs. Probably more phonetically and syntactically complex than English. The cave paintings in France are 30-40000 years old. Evidence of symbolic behaviour goes back about 100,000 years in South Africa.
