Star Wars: Empire at War is a great game in its own right... but it can be improved by mods! Thrawn's Revenge is a massive overhaul mod that begins shortly after the battle of Endor and covers the rise of Grand Admiral Thrawn, the Dark Empire saga, and so much more! Since Thrawn is one of my favorite characters from the old Star Wars canon, I can't resist playing as the Imperial Remnant and taking the fight to the New Republic!

@@PravusGaming Pravus, the TIE Fighter Total Conversion project is coming out in about a month or so, which remakes TIE Fighter in a new engine. I highly recommend you try that as it looks amazing.

+@@FlyingwithFire+ Hell even LucasArts had some Major problems later on with Star Wars Video Games. Look up the debacle that was the aborted Battlefront 3 that was being developed by Free Radical Design that devolved into a pissing match between the Lucas bigwigs and Free Radical that culminated in a supposed KZbin video mocking LucasArts that they refused to take down. Before even that final nail in the coffin; LucasArts never figured out how to make video games after the 1990s and the mainly Movie industry Execs just couldn't understand how the games industry in the 21st century worked. Namely needing extensive delays that you can absolutely NOT afford to cut corners with lest you get a Cyberpunk 2077 on your hands (In an era where there were no online patches for consoles or it was in its infancy).

So for Income. you can place two tax collection agencies on a planet and you want to place them on the planets with the highest base income as they work off that. you also have a trade station which does a similar thing but is a space structure. Both have a limit of 15. Food and industry only need to be above 0. It is bad for it either to below zero and you need them as planets and some ground buildings cost them as upkeep. The display shows your net value of those two resources. Influence is a metric of how much control over a planet you have. if it low (3 or below off the top of my head) then that planet can start to build up unrest and eventually revolt. the revolt mechanic often catches new people out.

@@PravusGaming also on certain planets influence can give access to some units. it is listed in one of the buttons on the left. It does also give slight income boosts when high but it is relatively minimal. to clarify if either resource is below 0 it gives -1 negative influence on all planets and -2 if both are below zero from memory. yes basically the loyalty stuff is tied to influence.

Petroglyph actually met with mod makers and made updates to this game that fixed a lot of issues. Now the modability of this game is so much greater!

When we are at it with Star Wars, you can also play Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast singleplayer. It's also a very old game by now, but it's the most overlooked of all Star Wars games.

Some quick bits of advice. Pressing ctrl+a selects all units. Your ships cost you upkeep, which will affect a planet's income. The highest base planet income in the game is 160. Building your trade and mining facilities there will make you the maximum amount of money. Your golan stations are your "main starbase". They are useless. The only defensive stations worth anything are the max level ones - those being the Empress and the Validusia class - or the Golan 3. Space defenses are almost totally useless, unless it's a combination of max level station and a dreadnought shipyard. Spamming all capital ships or spamming carriers are the only cost effective ways to play the game. For the Imperial Remnants, using the battle cruisers to just smash the enemy lines is the best way to play. Spamming AT-ATs is the only fun way to play land battles.

The best way to win space battles is spamming high DPS ships with decent survivability like the imperial-II or *especialy* nebula class that just kills everything before they can do sufficient damage to you.

Fun fact about Thrawns reign you can use. Thrawn let’s you build capture shuttles that can steal enemy ships. It only works if the ship is like 90% dead though and enemy ships will target it. As soon as you move on to Palpatine you can’t build more but you can keep the ones you already have so keep that in mind.

The cheese strat I always used was to just build the death star and blow the crap out of planets to avoid land battles. Also Pravus don't forget you used to be able to use Interdictor cruisers to prevent enemies from running away.

I had some great battles with Empire at War, most notable was one were i was extremley outnumbered as the Empire on a small outopost, but i managed to destroy all Torpedo Hardpoints on the assaulting ships, and so despite loosing what small garrison fleet i had, the Space Station managed to survive and be victorius.

Hi, just wanted to give you a quick tip after I saw you first ground battle, hope it makes your game more enjoyable. To make it easier for yourself, at start drop down fastest units like Jedi and stormtroopers to take the next closest drop zone as soon as possible. Then after deploying your 10 units it's easier, especially with a Jedi. For example; you don't need to attack with a Jedi, just make him stand infront your army to get shot while your units from behind delete the enemy. I said to stand infront because if they go too deep in the enemy line you risk losing the Jedi from too much firepower. Also, the bacta tanks are ideal for some chokepoints to heal up your infantry while the enemy is sending units, so you can do some sealthy moves with your special units. I know the ground battles are a bit lacking, but there are ways like I just described to make them much less frustrating. Love this game anyways, hope we get EoW 2 at some point. Cheers

Though Thrawn's Revenge is quite an amazing mod I always preferred Awakening of the Rebellion largely with the units they offer like the U-Wing my favorite troop transport of Star Wars and couple of the awesome systems they have place for Ground and Space Combat.

My favorite ground unit is the at-at. Very armored and has free troops. However its weakness can be amassed infantry or missile carrying vehicles so put at-st's , at-pt's and juggernauts with point laser defense.

The empire and republic literaly aigned a truce to hunt him down. In game his factions just broken. He has a lot of income and starts with his executor and is basicaly a tier 1 commander. Which theres omly 2 tier 2 commanders in the gamd.
