Thank you, Father, for this loving reminder to pray even when we don't feel up to it, to push through those "dry" spells, and receive His Grace. ❤️🙏🏻☦️

Amen. He already knows what we have need of before we ask. God desires that bond with us and relationship. One of the things that I have appreciated from learning from my orthodox brothers and sisters is the Jesus prayer. I have implemented it in my life. I found it very rich! thank you for this insightful video.

Recent convert here (2 yrs. old) Thank you Fr. for this. I struggle with my prayer rule, especially the evening one, often skipping it exactly due to what you describe here. "What's the point in just going through the motions, I'm tired, I'm just not n the mood, it's an affront to God praying like this..." etc, etc. I think I misread St. John of Kronstandt's advice about prayer on his "My Life in Christ" books?; he's very, very emphatic on not "going through the motions" concerning prayer. My own spiritual guide and confessor has advised me not to merely "read the words" from the book if and when I'm feeling despondent and dry (often the case at night), but rather use simple, basic words to address our Lord. As a "baby Christian" I'm often a bit confused and overwhelmed , sometimes I find there's lots of contradicting advice from the Church. I'll follow your advice and stick to it, though, with the grace of God I'll overcome my laziness and despondency. 🙏

We do not rely on emotion when it comes to interacting with those we love, and we especially should not depend on emotion in our relationship with God. So let's keep our prayers going, and not depend on our emotions🙏

How do we deal with a long dry spell Father? For months now it has felt like sending radio waves into the void.

If you do not feel like praying, you have to force yourself. The Holy Fathers say that prayer with force is higher than prayer unforced. You do not want to, but force yourself. The Kingdom of Heaven is taken by force (cf. Matt. 11:12). +Saint Ambrose of Optima +
