He spent his life, watching the river run dry
Sandbars keep rising as the water is falling
Just like the tears in his eyes
And he plows that ground, and he looks around
Trees of his childhood whither away
On another blue sky day
God grant him patience, God give him strength
And help him before, his farm blows away
He’s tending his cattle, as he tall in that saddle
And pauses in the middle of the day, to pray for rain
His kids are all grown, And they’ve all moved on
Nobody wants to be covered in dust trying to break even on the farm
Big companies moved in, they all surround him
But he’ll stay on this land as long as he can
