Agree 100% on the quality of the GPI drop-in kit. I’m making 1059 WHP on this setup (Whipple 3.0 with LPE DI fueling) and have been over 3 years at 900+ WHP on that GPI setup. Top shelf stuff and amazingly tough for a drop-in kit.

Did you have to pull the motor and balance yours?
@joshuacayea7810 Жыл бұрын
@@sheldor73 We pulled the motor in anticipation of having to balance it but didn’t end up needing to. My shop weighed the piston/rod assemblies and the weights were amazingly close to OEM. They reassembled everything with careful attention to all bearing clearances and it’s been very solid for simple “drop-ins”.

So, since you have the block machined, do you buy the 4.070 kits or stock bore?

does this work with LT1 stock block or any prerequisites needed to actually install this (just wondering, not actually planning to put this in an engine)

Thanks for the insight about the balancing!

GM has always had machine work thats "good enough" 😆 Back in the day when I worked in a machine shop almost every SBC rod had to be redone for a rebuild. Once it was remachined they super rarely needed to be redone a second time on the next rebuild. I seen it first hand why a few years in. We had a guy buy a brand new GM Goodwrench 350 and wanted it blueprinted and a good street cam and heads. Sure enough the rods needed redone. Brand new.

I agree with you 100% I did my own build and did same kit had vibration at higher rpm's definitely need it all to be balanced now everything is apart getting it done wish I knew what I know now ! I really think they should stop calling them drop ins. Like me thinking it be easy to drop them in and be done save time and money but not the case

I'm very glad I saw this video before getting the pistons/rods ("drop ins") in the mail. Should be getting them any day now. GPI even says you can install this kit with motor still in the car. I guess you can but may have issues with vibration. :(

Would this work with the Stock heads on a 2014 Silverado 5.3

Are you saying the LT machining is worse then the LS stuff?

If you’re going to send stuff to the machine shop, the point of a ‘Drop in” kit is useless.

Actually not at all. The parts are still the parts you would have to run anyway. It is not the parts fault GM sucks at their job.
