As a beginning practicing Buddhist, I have learned so much through these videos. So much more than any other series. he answers real questions, with clarity and kindness. Thank you Master Sheng-Yen. Amituofo!

Master Sheng Yen did A good job presenting this. I'm not Buddhist, But I understand what he's saying. Don't be hypocritical. And he had a point with Christians too. It's a mockery when people just cover up their wrong and pretend to be saintly. Holier-than-thou stuff gets to me..

***** What he said should be applied to all spiritual tools in all faiths. Respect differences. It's that simple. Peace.

I never bought a Buddhist prayer beads in accessories stores. I got one given to me from a Buddhist nun. And I used it often counting reciting amitabha, guan yin, and dizangwang bodhisattva's name 3 times per round.

I wanted to get into prayer beads for buddhism. But I knew they weren't an accessory. He's right, they are a tool for concentrating the mind.

I'm not a Buddhists simply a meditation practitioner and as a westerner i see people with buddha statuses in there house as decorations all the time, growing up many kids parents had then but its the kind of people with "live laugh love" on there wall theres no real connection to mindfulness or spirituality but simply the facade of learned life practice

If a criminal wears a mala isn't he/she welcome. Shinran quite explicitly said "that a sinner with faith will be made welcome in the Pure Land - even more welcome than a good man who has faith and pride."
@エルフェンリート-l3i8 ай бұрын
He didn't categorically condemn criminals, please read carefully. The opposite is the case: He said that if a criminal is wearing a Mala to remind himself of the Buddha or generally, as a skillful means on his way of repenting, then it's okay, but if he only wears it for fashion or because he wants to superficially gain mercy because people might assume some form of spirituality, then he shouldn't wear the Mala, as it disrespects honest spiritual practice.

Although I am not absolutely sure, he was born and raised in mainland China in the 1930s and lived there until 1949 so the likelihood is that he is speaking Chinese. Of course I could be completely wrong but that’s just my two cents
