PRAYER FOR A NEW DAY

Text by Christian Robert Shockley (with thanks to Mr. Fred Rogers)
This choral anthem is an artistic collaboration of Jonathan Reid and Christian Robert Shockley. Jonathan Reid used melody and chord progression he wrote during his undergraduate studies, as music to a handwritten poem by Shockley. The words were inspired by a quote from Mr. Fred Rogers from his show, Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.
We are honored to be joined by our friends from the Visayas, the Sinirangan Chamber Singers, and the University of Mindanao Chorale Alumni, in this virtual choir project.
Prayer for A New Day is an intimate conversation with God, an invocation to purge one’s self of vain or selfish desires and that only grace, kindness and love be upon everybody as we go on our daily lives.
It is our prayer for our country, and for the rest of the world. Our prayer for gentle words to be spoken in the midst of the harsh and divisive narrative that is so common these days.
