“Praying for One Another”
Colossians 1:9-14
When Paul heard of the Colossians response to the Gospel message it produced these results:
He rejoiced in the testimony of salvation of others! Luke 15:7, 10
Col. 1:3-4a
We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,
4 since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus
There is this third result: Do you pray for your brother and sisters in Christ?
Some examples of others that prayed for others:
Job prayed for his friends Job 42:10
Moses prayed for Aaron & Miriam Num. 12:13; Deut. 9:20
David prayed for Solomon I Chron. 29:18-19
Isaiah prayed for the people of God Isa. 63:15-64:12
Jesus prayed for His disciples John 17:9-24
The Church at Jerusalem prayed for
Peter’s release from prison Acts 2:5
Epaphras prayed for the Colossians Col. 4:12

For this reason we also, since the day we heard it,
do not cease to pray for you, and to ask . . . .
Romans 1:9
. . . that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers,
Ephesians 1:16
do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers:

We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers,
Philemon 4

1. That you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding 1:9

2. That you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 1:10
A. Walk worthy: This calls for believers to live in
a way that is consistent with their profession of Christ
B. Being fruitful in every good work: Spiritual fruit from a righteous life

3. That you would increase in the knowledge of God 1:10
Spiritual growth can not be accomplished apart from knowing God and knowing Him more!
John 14:17
the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him;
but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
Phil. 3:10
that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings,
being conformed to His image
