Usually (emphasize USUALLY) you attack the fire from inside to outside. Otherwise you can push the heat to unburnt parts of the house. The layout of the house, the structure, and building materials, even the yard layout can effect that, so there is no 'one size fits all'. This is also why sometimes it takes a few minutes to decide the best way to attack the fire. The fact that the garage had walls built against the doors meant that the layout of the house may have been altered from original and not standard or to fire standards. Which means caution is warranted.

Absolutely positively no motivation on this department side. How long does it take to charge a line and get it in service? How long does it take firemen to actually do their job
@2lilangelwingz8 ай бұрын
The one thing that caught my attention was the cops walking around calmly as residents are sawzalling the garage open UNTIL it was opened then they start to yell for them all to back up right as the residents are about to pull the guy out. Seems like the cops just took credit for the residents rescue to me. They sure werent yelling back up when they had the sawzall cutting it open!!! Just my opinion and observation. Smh

First things first, there was NO urgency when the FD arrived, they treated this fire as if it was a training exercise. Second point, unless the officer-in- charge told the first crew not to go in but to fight fire from the the front door, there was know reason why (unless there was massive obstruction to the crew), they did not work the line though the house to the back where the bulk of the fire was, they probably would have knocked down the bulk of the fire. Jobs like this, you have to be aggressive to save the property...........................this was once somebody's home. Respect to the neighbours for having the idea to use a reciprocating saw to to gain entry to the garage and save the occupant.

Nearly 2 mins to charge a line. That's not good, unless you don't have tank water, which would be crazy

Anyone have a fire extinguisher? That kind of tickled me. I was watching the flames trying to imagine what it would do.

I wonder why the guy inside the garage didn’t just open it from the inside. There’s always something that I don’t get.
@jerseyshorefireresponse8 ай бұрын
Ya so it’s kinda hard to tell but that garage was constructed with walls against the doors so they were permanently down, there for the need to cut him out, assuming if there was a window that was covered also, his only other way out was through the fire so they cut him out after breaking open the door.

must be a slow crime day when they dang near have half the dept on a fire call telling the people trying to rescue someone to back up then there is the one cop with the super troopers mustache

This is puzzling to me. Fire was burning intensely in two seemingly distinct and unrelated locations...the outside of the front door and at the rear of the house. Do we know anything about the cause? Could this have been arson?? Also, was there not a back or side door to the garage that might have been easier to open than breaking into that roll-up front door??? As for someone asking for a fire extinguisher, isn't that a bit like someone below deck on RMS Titanic asking for a bucket after it hit that iceberg?

Okay last time I checked, SCBA units are integrated into the seats and should have been put on already. Everybody move at a snail's pace before we make the hose hard.

This is nothing new in Lakewood. Between the latino and hasidic communities, there are hundreds of people living in garages and basements.

Am I only the one hearing the fire extinguisher guy as asking...ironically? There's almost a dozen cops standing there, so probably 6-12 fire extinguishers are available...while the neighbors and their tools got the guy out. No knock on the FD; they weren't there yet.
@David-zo4ks6 ай бұрын
100% agreed. We have a bunch of uniformed police just kind of hanging around while the neighborhood executes a rescue with garden tools. Kind of felt like they could've done more than yell.

The fire dept. response time absolutely disgusts me. How many more people have to die before they provide adequate professional coverage in the Jersey shore area. One Engine and one Ladder in Lakewood is totally in appropriate and the township should be ashamed of themselves for providing inadequate coverage for a town that large.

Someone needs to explain to the cops they need to stay out of the way. Otherwise put on bunker gear and go inside. Bet they won't. The last thing we need at a fire is a bunch of guys that wouldn't know what to do if you told them. I don't know what the water source was, but it seemed like they were waiting on a cop to give the okay to flow water. Later I see an engine connected to a plug. As to the fire...been there, done that, have the merit badge. Moving a charged line is a pain in the tail. It has been a few years, but I am still good for an exposure line.
