PRE-ARRIVAL: Working Shed Fire with Lots of Smoke - Cushing, ME

Pre-arrival video of a working shed fire on Spear Mill Rd in Cushing, Maine. The call went out at about 11:40am. Thomaston Engine 4 was first due and stretched an attack line and got the fire under control in a few minutes. All other mutual-aid except for the ones already on scene were canceled. I live in rural Maine myself, and I can tell you that when your friends and neighbors show up to help out in an emergency, its the best feeling in the world. Most of them are volunteers, too. Mainers tend to give you your space, but when the chips are down, they're in your corner.

That looks exactly like the early 1950s ranch style house I grew up in. Except we didn’t have a basement.

Thanks! It went out as a 1st alarm but once the fire was knocked down command canceled the rest of the mutual-aid.

@@CoolFireTrucks oh cool! So for a normal fire response it’s a first alarm for Maine? In illinois it’s a general, still, full still, box then a second third fourth and so on

@@John_Montefalco well it is 1st alarm for Knox County. Bigger cities in Maine such as Portland do the still and box alarms.

What a waste of resources all those appliances for one little shed? So who is covering the neighbourhood if an occcupier trapped fire occurs just then while all those appliances are there to save the tool shed?

We all cover each other. Everyone is a volunteer. If there were to be a fire they would respond while another 2-3 mutual aid partners responded. They are called apparatus not appliances. They aren’t refrigerators and ovens!
