As a long time hs fan who was part of the "old fandom" I just wanted to say thank you for keeping SBURB alive, instead of getting my hs serotonin from upd8s I now get it whenever I see new fans. You can never truly leave the homestuck fandom, no matter how little I interact with the fandom it will always be at the very centre of my heart. But knowing that there are still new fans means a lot. Makes me want to paint myself grey and reread everything all over again🤣 The fandom might not be what it was but hs has always been constantly evolving, I started reading in 2014 during the gigapause (holy shit nearly a decade ago), I never felt like I was part of the "old fandom" then and I always wished I'd been apart of it from the beginning, but who knows what Hussie has planed next in his weird little head. In a decades time it might have been revived again and then you'd be considered part of the old fandom too, what really matters is that you went on the insane journey ❤
@Iryldrith Жыл бұрын
this might be the wrong place to share this but i feel this on an almost gut wrenching level i started reading homestuck just after the final act 7 page released in early 2016 and by that point the height that the fandom was once at had faded away, and i had a desire for a long time that maybe if i had just gotten into hs a few years eariler they i could have seen all the popular amvs as they were coming out and participate in the fandoms theory crafting of what was gonna happen next, and wait for the hype of the next big flash page now 6 years later that ive aged and my tastes have changed a lot im left with very complicated feelings on homestuck, i dont think its good but i like it; i cant reccomend it, but i want my friends to read it, etc. but no matter what my feelings on hs are, my feelings on all the content around it will never change,, you dont need any context to understand the beauty of the blue lips amv, or appreciate this energetic comfort of this song. im not sure how i feel about a somewhat poorly pased, dense as hell, glorified coming of age story, but i couldnt hold all the music, and art, and fan projects that came from it in higher regard.

i haven't been around since the genesis of the webcomic, but i started keeping up with it around 2015 all the fan content being pumped out back then made this one of the most satisfying communities i've ever had the pleasure of participating in this song fills me with nostalgia in a positive sense, it doesn't make me feel sad that it's over, but happy that it happened i'm not interested in reading hs2 anymore, i've mostly moved on from my attachment to the webcomic, but i'll forever remain a part of the community, and i hope newcomers feel welcome and at home with us, be it in the genesis project, pesterchum, farragofiction, mspfa, etc

this song and the art are just so bittersweet. block out the shadow of dirks betaverse self's final moment and its a sweet painting in a cute art style. but then theres the tragedy behind him. he's unaware of it. the song itself... at first the song, strongly in its rhythm, especially that of the accompanying piano, seems so cheery. yet when the song comes together with all its different aspects, theres a melancholy and almost nostalgic sorrow. even the title. moonsetter. oh the emotional cocktail this creates. the kind that makes you cry and smile at the same time. i feel a nearly nauseating sadness in my stomach, threatening to make me cry at any given moment should i allow it to. but theres a happiness in my heart. this piece is so beautiful. its so beautiful and so fucking sad. the conflicting emotions. nearly enough to make a fucker puke! okay actually no throwing up because of feelings would be stupid stupid dumb but i wasnt being figurative with that "nauseating sadness" bit. >.

It's not so much that Dirk is unaware, it's that there's a parallel intended between Dirk's emotions, and Bro's fate in the Betaverse.

This sounds like the music that would play late at night in a city. You're walking down the street with someone you know, or even strolling along alone. The hustle and bustle of the evening are dying away as shops close. It's a song of parting at the end of a day, or spending the last moments of moonlight dancing in the streets. It's a lullaby for the world.

I remember seeing a comment on either this one or the other Moonsetter video that said "why do homestucks cry over the happiest songs wtf" or something along the lines of that. Well, when i first got into HS it was a hard time in my life and let me just say because of that comic i met some of the best people in my life, got into cosplay, felt an interest in something when i wasn't willing to notice anything anymore, and well to shorten this up, the comic made me happy even though everything else going on was shitty. This is one of those songs that i associate with that period of my life because it just made me so damn happy. I'll admit, to this day i cry over homestuck every now and then, as silly as it is to say. Obviously, i'm not as into it as i was before, but regardless it'll always hold a special place in my heart.

Ah...such bittersweet. It evokes those sweet pains and bitter glories of the older times. The childhood memories, the prideful victories, the sorrowful defeats, the punishing humiliations...like a puppet show of the four humors reenacting your life story for you to reminisce within and from beyond. Such beautiful phantasmagoria...such innocent melancholy. It causes one to simultaneously look behind, and look onward...without ever turning around in the first place, or ever intending it. Truly mystical, and miraculous. Now...may I ask... ...what does it hold for *you*?

The fact that most of my direct family plays an instrument that is played in this song (Cello, Piano, Violin) just makes me feel even more nostalgic about this, for some reason. In the future, I can imagine myself listening to this while sitting on the roof of some building, staring at the stars. Even farther in the future, I can see myself, after the death of a loved one, listening to this to mourn. This is just how I see myself with this song. At the same time, I can hear it being the happiest song I've ever heard, like it's Christmas morning and this song plays. It's a happy-sad mix, and the song follows whatever emotion you want it to follow.

To me it kind asounds like relaxing a bit and taking a break during a warm night with full moon, after a really hard day/week, trying to be calm down and relax, even if you have everything under control but at the same time you know that things are getting out of control, and that they may and will get worse than how they are now, but you can't let your guard down on those things, or everything will really be lost. Pretty much like the last time you will be able to relax, clear your mind and take a break before something big, unevitable and bad happens. Something that you will be taking part of and that will make you put all your effort into solving it, to get to the best possible conclusion from it. As you keep taking your last break, you sometimes think that no matter what you do, everything is already lost. You also think that only you can fix it, that it all depends on you, that you are important and vital. That is how Moonsetter makes me feel, quite a good soundtrack to listen while studying for exams. It has that sad touch even if it also sound happy, but it also makes me feel motivated in stuff. Also, this should be Dirk's theme.

Here's a funny story about this song. No, I did not read Homestuck so please don't kill me. It was the summer of 2020 when I first listened to this song. It sounded so nostalgic yet it was the first time I had heard this song. It had instantly become my favorite. Also that summer, I managed to get to be friends with my crush. We became good friends as we would talk to each other almost every day. It was then that she stopped talking to me. I revisit this song every once in a while to have the memories of that humid, warm summer flow back to me. This song brings me great pain and great joy. I love this song.

In a D&D campaign I wrote, I made this the song for this literal Heaven On Earth place, literally called Moonset. Every character the players killed were there, living happy lives compared to the apocalypse they just came out of, where everyone was mutated and killing each other. This was where the final battle is fought, with all the characters of Moonset uniting together with the player characters to fight this evil god bent on obliterating the planet just to spite his dad.

what's more sad is that this music reminds me of my old pokemon game, like the music that played after you beat the elite 4 and the credit is rolling while you see scene of your adventure.

@TheCooro9 жыл бұрын
Nick Bowling I feel like the song has such a happy and nostalgic feel that you become sad because you're remembering happier times. Or at least that things may get better but will never be as perfect as they were. Its the feeling of saying goodby expressed through music.

What if this is actually played by Jade, Rose and John to be sent to the alpha kids by Dave? And they are basically trying to tell them that they believe in them and that they love them even if they can't be there (or end up dying before the Alpha session). It was so sad that John started to cry while playing because he knew the whole grandpa/nana situation. ((I'm gonna go cry in the corner now...))

Never read Homestuck once, but I’ve always respected it because of the music both the series and the fans put out, and this has gotta be one of my favorite pieces from Homestuck. Just 3 instruments, creating such a beautifully made melody that just seems so nostalgic and makes you want more for something that you don’t even know about.

This song and Candles and Clockwork are like nostalgia trips. This one represents all the good memories and fun times you had, before you say goodbye to someone (possibly forever). Candles and Clockwork represents all the bad memories and mistakes I'd still repeat any day, because those memories and mistakes are a part of me and I don't want to change that. Candles and Clockwork is more mellow and grownup, with a melancholy feel towards the memories of the past, while this one is like simply enjoying the moment while it still lasts.
@noelle4298 жыл бұрын
candles and clockwork probably feels more melancholic and nostalgic since its based around dave, and y'know having to see all his dead selves and to have to repeat something and relive that moment over and over. but moonsetter is perfectly described when just using the name of the song, 'moonsetter', because (lame ass explanation but) its like the moon is (fuck really?? wow) setting, or something good and happy is coming to an end, but dont be sad yo because it leaves you with the hope for tomorrow and the sunshine and the good parts of the day. so i guess it feels familiar in the sense that your saying goodbye to a close friend, and you dont have to worry if its your last goodbye, while candles and clockwork is more like reliving or memorizing a sad moment youve had, like deja vu. sorry for the giant word barf but i just really wanted to add this, i could even add more but id rather not waste anyones time by going too far into detail
