My daddy was a southern Baptist minister for small churches near Augusta Ga. I remember going to our members house for Sunday lunch. Something they also invited other family’s to dinner. Everyone brought their special receipt. The food was always good & plentiful. One time I told mama that my plate didn’t need washing because I had licked it clean. Daddy & mama we’re graduate of Moody Bible Seminary in Chicago He was a great preacher. Always true to Gods Word. They often sang during the service. I miss them every day. God bless & keep you in His tender care. Memau from Georgia

I was raised just outside Chicago where Moody Bible Institute is located. One of my pastors was graduated from Moody. The best part was they had a radio station, WMBI. At that time they aired the recorded claa s students took. Mom had it on all day and I received an incredible Bible based education as a result. I base what I hear from pastors and teachers yet today. God’s Word never changes! Blessings📖

Loved this video video. My husband is from Kentucky (Appalachian Mountains) and he will love this story and definitely this cake. He is from the Isaacs Family (yes the famous Isaacs in Nashville are his first cousins) and is constantly sharing his stories with me and my family about the log cabin his Grandma and Grandpa help raise him in and how she was always making food for everyone in case they all ventured up the Hill for supper. We now are part owners of the old cabin in the Isaacs Hill and have our family reunions there. Last visit I met about 250 first cousins 😱 and the Singing Gospel Isaacs were there with us what a thrill for this City Girl from Maryland. My Momma started teaching me from the time I could stand on a chair position next to the space of our kitchen sink and stove explaining every single food she was putting into that huge pot of soup or roast that was going in the oven for hours. She especially got a thrill out of cutting small pieces of the vegetables, carrots 🥕, celery , potatoes 🥔, turnips , cabbage 🥬 for me to try before they spent hours on the stove on a slow simmer. Well I now love cooking, baking etc for my new Kentucky Husband ( we are still Senior newlywed’s of 31/2 years at age 70 ) travel all over this world now that Covid has left the building, 😂, and are amply Grateful to God every single day that at this late stage in our lives He was so Loving and Awesome to put us together so that our Golden Years (sometimes rusty , lol 😂,) won’t be lonely but Blessed with the sharing of God’s most precious gifts, Life , Love and Hope. Thank you so much for your videos, your sharing of your stories and your love for Our Lord. Have a Blessed and Safe Weekend ❤😊🙏🏼😍🥰😌🙏🏼❤️

She'd always let me have seconds, even when my mom said no. I miss her every day. I've been looking for this cake everywhere. Thank you so much. I have no doubt I'll cry when I taste it again.

Thank you for this recipe. I forgot about this one. My grandchildren have never had this. I'm going to give them a treat and tell them the story. 🙏💨❤. Preacher Sunday always meant Mother's banquet. We were gonna eat till our bellies hurt. 😊 I always add about a 1/4 cup cream to that frosting. It is so good on a chocolate or spice cake too. The best way to spread the gospel is walk the talk. Says so much more then words. Be blessed in everything you set your hands to.

(Okay, so I wrote this early on in the video lol... But in general it still holds!) ☺️ I'm quite new to your channel, but one thing's just occurred to me: how pleased I am that in any of the videos I watched thus far, there hasn't been NOISY MACHINERY! ♥️ When I'm watching a recipe that I'm looking forward to making but then the person hauls out one or more big appliances it's such a turn-off... Adds more complication and, of course, sometimes I don't have that appliance. I like to do things simple. I realize that your doing these wonderful, reliable, "stick to your insides" old recipes, it's just one more wonderful thing about this channel, 'bless 💖

Ohhh my goodness, Miss Becky!!! I can't wait to try this recipe!! My whole stove is completely gone out and on very limited income I'm probably going to have to rent-to-own one as I have had to do with our last two refrigerators. First I've got to see if we're going to have to move. We've been here about 18 years renting and our landlady, a precious 90 year old Christian lady passed on February 17th and was laid to rest yesterday. I've known her and her husband and family since I was a child and I'm 62 now. My husband works for her youngest son but it's going to be up to their eldest son whether we have to move or not. I hope not because I've come to think of it as home and it's convenient to everything. Hospital, stores, etc. Please say a prayer for us. I love you and your channel so much. Your messages are very uplifting and your recipes are amazing. Thank you for all and God bless you and your family!!! 🙏🏼💕

I make hummingbird cake very often, and even make my own cake mixes with the dry ingredients. I freeze ripe bananas measured out in the correct quantities for the recipe. There are few differences in this recipe and that one. There is a small can of pineapple (8 oz) rather than 20 ounces, no coconut, one and a half teaspoons instead of 2 of vanilla extract and salt. One teaspoon baking soda, and add 2 cups diced ripe bananas. There are optional nuts in a few recipes, but not in my recipe. This is my family's favorite dessert.

This reminds me a lot of the cakes that my grandmother and mother used to make. Mom made a 5-layer pineapple torte that was divine. Grandma Wentz's applesauce fruitcake is not to be missed. I liked it so much that Mom would make two for the Christmas holiday and freeze one for my birthday. I'm one of six kids so a sheet cake was a good thing because you could divvy it out and still have a little bit left for Dad's lunch or our after school snack the next day. Thank you for this recipe. I have never heard of this cake but I will be trying it. And thank you for having God with you in your kitchen. Did I mention I'm a preacher's kid? 😁

It was called showing your guests hospitality , ladies kept some form of desert at the ready to offer with coffee, hot tea , lemonade , iced tea for refreshments.

Glad you didn't let this cake go by. In those old days a smile or holding a hand was more thrilling than all the things in dating these days

That looks SO delicious. What might be fun is color the coconut for the top. Like red , it's already white And blue for 4th of July. Green for St. Patrick's Day Let your imagination run! Thanks for this recipe 🎉❤
