When Dutch discovered that the mud "camouflage," he could've used it to escape, but instead, he stayed to avenge his team and to get back his manhood. I think that Dutch would rather die in the jungle than leave as a shell of himself.

This was the turning point in the movie, before this the Predator was in control and could dictate how and when it would strike by virtue of its near-perfect camouflage and deadly one-shot kill shoulder-mounted plasma cannon. But Dutch covered in mud and armed with comparatively primitive makeshift bow and explosive arrows was now in control and dictating how and when he would strike, in a sort of reversal of fortunes for the Predator which was armed with technologically advanced and superior weapons and equipment. It was drawn to heat to hunt its prey, and in like manner it was drawn to the heat of the bonfire that Dutch had set up only to become the prey itself. The fact that the Predator fired its shoulder-mounted plasma cannon wildly and in every direction after being hit by the explosive arrow is an interesting insight into its character. It showed that the Predator wasn’t too different to the humans it had previously hunted in the events of the movie, that it was capable of panic and desperation when circumstances spiralled out of control. In a way, you could say that Dutch was the real Predator because he was able inflict some pretty nasty wounds on the Predator itself, and did so without the advanced weaponry and equipment. This portrayal of Dutch and the Predator in the way they mirrored and contrasted each other was a stroke of genius.

This Predator’s ego really was nocked down a peg or two. I would be willing to bet that this was the first time this Predator ever experienced his own medicine used against him. I bet up until this point in Predator history, no human successfully used mud to camouflage him/herself, and furthermore no Predator knew that Mud would block the heat signature of a human. The REAL surprise and subsequent frustration heard and seen by the Predator in this scene really demonstrates that this is a moment in history that no other Predator has likely seen before. No wonder this Predator didn’t kill Dutch when his head was between the wrist gauntlets , his honor was being challenged.

I think it's subtle, but part of the reason why the Predator ditches all his equipment after this when he confronts Dutch (the other part being his desire to fight a worthy adversary). Is the fact that I think he realizes how over reliant he was becoming on his superior equipment. The only thing that changed here was Dutch found a way to remain camouflaged from the Predator's infrared vision. With just that, the Predator is easily lured into a trap and then forced to basically panic fire into the trees to protect himself. The Predator realizes he's become sloppy, and I think in that aspect he decides he needs to really fight without that equipment to push himself once again.

Predator 2 was great in its own right. Not as bombastic and testosterone filled as the first film, but it was really cool to see how a Predator and it's targets fought in a city setting as well as watching a badass cop go toe to toe with a Predator. AvP was... alright at best, just nice to see Aliens and Predators duke it out even in a mediocre story setting. Everything else Predator related is garbage though, no question about it. AvP Requiem, Predators 2010 and The Predator 2018, all god awful.

The Predator was the ultimate hunter and seeing him become the hunted really sent this movie over the top for me. This movie and Aliens (the sequel to Alien), was the best sci-fi movie that the 80’s had to offer. They made a huge impression on me as a teenager.
@LordofMovies913 жыл бұрын
They're tied together in some ways as well. Stan Winston, having finished working on Aliens, was on a flight with James Cameron. Sketching the Predator, James Cameron was talking to Winston and said he always wanted to see a monster with mandibles. Though neither of them worked on the project, AvP: Requiem was interesting at least when you realize the PredAlien fused the two together.

Did it occur to the world, that it was Arnold's ego that created the predator franchise. He was so undefeated, he had to dream up a technologically advanced alien hunter to be a challenge for him.

Then I think it went downhill I liked the visuals of new predator but acting was so bad, and jokes were so terrible... (get to the choppers and the guy points to motorcycles...)so bad. Cringed hard. And the attempt to steal a scene from spiderman and iron man by making a suit that acts just like the spider mech suit Tony gave spiderman. But this was for fighting predators. No. Terrible.
