The Lost World raptors on the LD you have there were on the back of the US version of the VHS release. I had both JP and Lost World on VHS. I never bought them on DVD though. Also I had a poster of the full body shot of the raptor in the jungle. I got it at a carnival in 1993 or 1994. My parents had it till just a few months ago and they gave it to me after having some work done in their attic. We moved so it has been up there for years. I gave it to my nephew.

Jack Anthony Ewins That's kind of similar to one scene in The Lion King where Banzai the hyena pointing to Ed saying "Well he started it." After he fights Ed for laughing at him. On the VHS version they only show Ed chewing his leg and half of Banzai. While in the special edition they show the whole frame with Banzai as a whole.

You're right about the nose, dude. I didn't notice this. Bluray throws away huge chunk of information. Why Spielberg is not alerted about this?

Hi Jack. Get hold of Back to the Future On the scene were Marti and His Girlfriend are In the Square In the Present on the Bench looking at the Truck on the Pickup. If You look behind on the Laser-disc, CED and VHS. You can see the Whole of the top of the Building and read the Billboard. On the DVD and Blu-ray You can't and these are the Differences that make People watching. Go Wow I never knew how much Information Is lost on these Formats. What a Rip Off. Hope this Helps. and Keep Laser-disc and Old Formats Alive.

The "Discovision" and other names other than LaserDisc were used in the 1970's for the "SelectaVision" video disc players, which were NOT laserdiscs. They were cartridges with a black plastic disc inside similar to a record.

MrWolfSnack Discovision was what Laserdiscs were called early on. RCA Selectivision discs A.K.A. CED discs are what you describe.

Hi Jack. I thought that was the scene You were going to Mention. Ellie picking the Leaf from the Hedgerow as the Jeep drives by. This Is on the None Certificated VHS the ones that don't have the 18, PG, Exct: In the Circles on the packaging. Or Pre-Video Nasty. Also on the CED version of the Film this Is a Record that plays a Film. Hope this Helps.

i missed seeing it in the theater since i was 10 years old despite being fascinated by dinos. i saw last action hero on vhs and thought it was ok. i bought jurassic park on vhs in 94/95. it was scary. lost world was the first jp movie i saw at loews wayne twice in dts surround sound. land before time was the first dino movie i saw. jp3 i saw once and then saw part of it while waiting for another movie to begin in clifton commons with my dad. jw i saw only once in fake 3d. i own the three disc set which includes the 2d bluray with special features, the 3d disc with some 3d features, and the dvd. theres also a code for digital copy. i hope for its 25th universal includes the original dts track since future editions contain a remixed 5.1 to 7.1 track plus dnr which universal is nototious for

I just pulled out my US Blu of this to look at the aspect ratio issue you're pointing out here. On my copy, I have a bit less information than your laser on the top and bottom of the frame, as you pointed out here. The interesting thing is, my Blu has more information on the sides of the frame than on your laser, at least on this scene. Laserdisc is not anamorphic, though, which is another way of saying you have to zoom in on it so that it will fill your widescreen TV. Zooming in might be the reason the sides of the frame on your TV are a bit cut off.

The LG on 16.9 may have overscan. Try changing the the screen setting on the LG to Native instead of 16.9

I've never seen that EU boxset, looks awesome. I have the US Special Letterbox Edition(has missing rapter frame), US standard widescreen version , and the ONLY version that matters...the US DTS audio version of LW and JP. I heard you mention that it sounds different, that's because the vast majority of laserdisc contain the original mix from the cinema master. So they sound MUCH more wide, dynamic and don't have near-field mixdown like dvd and blurays.

With Blu-ray and DVD in order to get the full image without it getting cut off, and if the TV you are using has it, you have to set the TV to Native mode as oppose to full mode. Same thing if you use an HDTV with HDMI as a computer monitor.

It's not automatically true that you will see more image with a laserdisc. It really depends on the transfer and whoever did the framing and/or cropping. Overscan is a possibility, another thing is you forgot to mention laserdisc is letterboxed, not anamorphic and thus to fill your widescreen tv, have to manually zoom in. (which it looks like you did)
@doctor_h
@doctor_h 7 жыл бұрын
Did you make sure to zoom out on your HDTV settings, usually by default, the HDTV zooms in a bit. This is for bluray portion of your video. edit: I just checked myself, and yeah you are right about the nose.

I hear about lots of laserdiscs (including Jurassic park) being open matte and showing more of the picture than dvd and blu ray I don't get it I know what open matte is but isn't the blu ray supposed to be presented in a movie's correct aspect ratio (theatrical aspect ratio)
@Knightmessenger
@Knightmessenger 7 жыл бұрын
Sometimes, a widescreen movie is framed/cropped differently on different editions. This is true even just among dvd. I thought any fullscreen edition of Jurassic Park was pan & scan, not open matte.

It seems a bit jittery to me, is that the actual laserdisk or is it the way your camera picks it up?

Jack, ¿does that player play both side of the disc automatically, or you have to open the tray and flip the disc manually? I remember to have seen an old Pioneer LD player that had the feature to play both side of the disc without opening the tray, it just take the laser lens above the disc when side B is played.

Do a compression for the Back to the Future, the screen in blu-ray is a lot more cut than Jurassic park.

Is it possible that maybe you have overscan/zoom turned on for your HDMI input? That might be what is cropping the Blu-Ray.
