I actually really enjoyed this movie and thought it had some great chilling moments to it. It was a bit different, but I think they handled the Predators themselves very well. And after The Predator, I think it's aged even better. No predators using disembodied arms to give people a thumb's up. And I'm definitely in the minority, but I liked that they used Brody as the main character instead of a huge body builder as the soldier-type. He felt more natural, and just an interesting change of pace.

Yeah, Brody being more of a lean type was great. But I have to admit, as much as The Predator was a mess, the thumbs up scene was genuinely funny and had me laughing. I still think the comedic tone was not the problem with The Predator. It was just a shitty and cluttered script.
@galmorzu
@galmorzu 4 жыл бұрын
@@wjzav1971 Yeah, good point. I think a lot of the things that bugged me about that movie could have been less important with a better script and story. My biggest issue with that movie was that studio interference feeling of, "if we do another movie, the predator is so familiar and boring, how can you make him bigger and meaner than before? Can we just make a super mutant predator? Now THAT would be scary!" Granted the berserker tribe in Predators is pretty much that, too, but they still function like normal predators for the most part and still get killed about as easily. They ended up just being another type of Predator species, so it was easier to fly with.

Actual combat medics are built, though. They're expected to carry a weapon like any other soldier in addition to their CLS bag. They also oftentimes have to, in the event of a wounded soldier on the battlefield, drag said soldier to a covered position in order to perform triage on them. Take it from experience: dragging a 200+ pound dude in full battle-rattle is not an easy thing to do, especially when your adrenaline is pumping after a firefight.

I've always loved this film and thought the ambiguous story telling worked really well in its favour to create mystery and add to the Predator lore without going too far in any wrong direction. Something that has always stuck with me however, is the fact that it's almost a beat for beat copy of the movie Cube. A bunch of strangers find themselves in an alien landscape and have to work together to essentially solve the puzzle they've been placed in - it even goes as far as to have the good guy - turn bad guy twist at the end, which is the one thing about both movies I really don't like. Really wish this got a sequel, that final shot is just perfection. It has a very similar feeling that Lost had in its mystery sci-fi storytelling.

I've been a fan of the original 1987 film since its release. My friends and I rewatched heavily in the 1980s on VHS and made some of us join the military. When it came time to buy movies in blue ray, i only bought three anrold Schwarzenegger films: terminator. T2, and predator. I read the comics, and I was not impressed by predator 2. However, predators is a true sequel and a master work...save for the concept of the super predators. Always mega work mate

As far as I'm concerned, this is the second best Predator film - behind the original of course. Yes, the lying trailer really pissed me off... but ultimately this was a satisfying and fun throwback to the original and I love that they did so much practical FX work. It's a pity this film wasn't the one followed up on and we got Shane Black's god-awful attempt a few years ago instead. Please. Predators 2 rocks. I am grateful that you showed the clips so that I never have to see Predators. I saw Mister Fishburne about a year before Predators was released at a local bookstore (Bodhi Tree) and he was limping something fierce - I can't imagine how the dude did this film in that condition, perhaps they had finished principle photography and he was wielding a walking stick as a result of the film. His condition looked so painful that I regret not having offered him basic hatha yoga instruction. Danny Glover rocks. Just a few minutes of Mister Rodriguez' effort makes my skin crawl. Too much money, too much fake passion. I don't want to ever, in experiencing the movie experience, want to see actors acting. I don't believe any of the people playing on screen though whoever the chick is somehow I believe her. Plump directors sitting in chairs and looking at screens? Seriously? Hey Oliver, I stumbled upon your channel less than a month ago and I've already watched more than 20. Lol. Your videos are very interesting and of course I love to hear interesting facts I didn't know about movies we've grown up with (I'm 35). I'm gonna start this video now, looking forward to it. Take care and be safe during this time especially.

The concept of this film has always intruiged me. The idea that the worst of the worst on planet earth being humbled by 'monsters' much scarier than they is powerful. A drug cartel, the most wanted, a serial killer, a Yakuza, etc. all of these big bads fearing for their lives and banding together only added to the fear you felt of the Predators. Like... if these guys are afraid, then holy crap!

You can’t come late to a production, be skinny then suddenly put on 25 pounds of muscle!! To get a build line that, quickly, you have no choice but to take specific steroids. It’s well known. Decent film, I enjoyed it. Very hard, impossible really, to get near Predator. But it’s an interesting film.

Great review, Oliver. And an unexpected one. Keep up the good work. This movie is definitely better than Shane Black's The Predator, but I think Black screwed by Fox when it came to editing the movie. Still waiting for a Director's cut of that one. Would really like to see what he had in mind, because what we got was a jumbled mess of a movie.

Predators is to the Predator franchise as Episode 7 is to the Star Wars franchise; a love letter/homage to the original while still trying to tell something new and interesting

Great movie. And a strong female lead character that’s not a Mary Sue! Imagine that. When HollyWood tries to fix a female lead problem that never existed it ruins franchises. Star Wars is dead. Captain Marvel, She Hulk and this Amazon Turds or Power is proof. Ripley ruled the Alien franchise and nobody seems to mention it.

This movie tried hard to resemble the original but is totally outclassed by the 1987 version... Adrian Brody isn't that believable and there is barely any characterisation for those killed off. The new predator was unnecessary and ending was underwhelming.

@Nova N I thought The Predator was ok and nothing special. WAS NOT a fan of The Predators thinking that autism is the next step of human evolution. And I'm disappointed that Shane Black wrote that.

I didn't realise people didn't like the design of the Berserker's face? I think it's pretty cool and is something different compared all the other Predators over the years. The Hot Toys version definitely stands out on the shelf amongst the others.

"two lackluster AVP films"? They greatly expanded the Alien and Predator universe and franchise and they're just as underrated if not more so than this film discussed here. Also, did you just refer to Noland as "Ronald"? xD

I didn't watch the first AVP in its entirety, only bits and pieces. I know the first of those added some backstory about the Aliens and the Predators fighting over hunting rights to the planet or some such...I feel that's a bit out of alignment with what the movies have shown before; Predators use highly advanced tech, Xenomorphs are about as smart as bees or any other hive insects with only the queens demonstrating anything approaching animal intelligence. Not a huge quibble but I hear other than that the movie was lackluster at best. What little I saw seems to bear that out. AVP Requiem I *did* see, and the only contribution of import it made to the universe was the short sequence at the end, which does more to highlight Weyland Yutani's overall role in Alien and Aliens than anything it does for this movie. Other than that, it was a woefully underacted, overproduced gore flick. The characters were cardboard. You were just waiting for people you didn't care about to get killed in gruesome fashions that the weirdos who read Fangoria back in the day would have liked.

I enjoyed Predators but I also agree that it wasn't mind blowing. It felt more like a pilot for a TV show, but a good TV show. The first two films are immense, and I liked the first AvP, but Predators is fine as well. I think by 2010 we had hit the point where people were happy that it just wasn't garbage.

I've got the same feeling for the Predator trilogy (The Predator doesn't count) that I do about the Jurassic Park trilogy. They're fun, classic movies that are easy to enjoy, but the first movie in each is far and away better than the others.

I really liked Predators when I saw it, it's my fav after the original. It's like a mix between Predator and Outpost with its multicultural cast. I liked some of the characters and didn't want them to die; though Royce was an asshole Brody played him well in my opinion and made him more likeable than he actually was. The fact that he wasn't too muscular fit with real-life active-duty soldiers since most of them tend to be leaner, so I had no problems with that. However, I believe if the main chara was more like Dutch in the way he cared about his people and wanted to save them and not just himself (at the beginning), people could root for him more. As it was, he wasn't all that likeable in the first half, especially compared to others, like Nikolaj who seemed warmer and more 'soldier-like' in how he looked out for his new team. I do realise that since the characters never met before, it was to be expected but still, something could have been done regarding that.
