Not understood by most, but prednisone is one of the stronger drugs endurance athletes take. Spares glycogen as it burns fat at higher workload intensity than normal. The insanely lean cyclists you see are often using it or some other sort of cortico. Prednisone is best reserved for day-of A-level competitions ONLY and even then can be highly addictive because it works really really well and it's easy to start using it for B-level competitions, then key workouts, then everyday. Best of luck to you Ryan and appreciate you putting yourself in a vulnerable position publicly so often. You're a good dude and we're all rooting for you.

For those listening to the early part of this video and sort of heard the "steroid" word... Best form is sodium ascorbate (can get 125g packets at most health food shops like Wholelife) -- but if you plan on taking it consistently as a general supplement or preventative, you're better of ordering online in bulk. You can take as much as 1g per KG of bodyweight if treating some serious ailment -- if you get the runs then just lower dose. Also best to sip it in diluted water over the course of a day as opposed to drinking too much in one go. 👍💪

Interesting. Never knew prednisone came with that little bonus. That’s a drag a Blue, can you sleep? Can somewhat relate. Was on the infamous F-patch for 12 years for a chronic back problem related to lifting and an earlier back job in ‘91. Did a two month taper at home and after that a second incision and a four bolt lower lumbar courtesy of a three-fingered doc (who was on the team that did Superman’s neck…a long, long time ago). Good thing the drill didn’t slip :). The withdraw experience was, uh, unsettling to say the least. Fookin’ A, was not prepared for that, but all’s well that ends well:). Never again, that’s for sure. These days it’s herb for residual nerve pain, nothing else. The positive in all that was this. The downtime led to the discovery of arm wrestling KZbinrs :). @@ryanbluebowen Good. The fact that you still feel terrible is proof that your adrenal system hasn't recovered adequately enough to function on its own. With that said, could you stop your taper right now? Sure...if you want to feel horrible for weeks, not be able to train properly, and adversely affect your ability to perform in your upcoming match. With a proper taper, you shouldn't feel terrible when you go off. At worst, there should be mild (MILD) discomfort for a few weeks, as your adrenal system finishes recovering. In some cases there can be long-term damage, which can lengthen the recovery period, but all cases should be individualized in order to ensure the easiest transition possible. Unfortunately, the medical establishment often follows set guidelines at the expense of the patient. From the doctor's perspective, if you aren't going to die or end up in the E.R. upon discontinuation, then it's time to end the taper. The bottom line is that suffering just isn't necessary and in your case, potentially detrimental to your career. It's one thing to lose a match when we've done all we can, but it's an entirely different thing to lose because we weren't able to prep properly. After you see your doc and he agrees to extend the taper for both health AND career reasons, you'll be back to feeling better within hours.

Prednisone prescribed for me for Myasthenia Gravis, for over a decade, has caused my adrenal glands to stop producing cortisol. Now I'm steroid dependent for life. 😢 Humans cannot live without cortisol, and prednisone only lasts 24 hours. I have to go to the hospital if i ever go without my prednisone more than 24 hours. 😔 It appears to now be causing a steroid myopathy which causes terrible weakness, and it's progressive. Now, im between a rock and a hard place. Too much prednisone for too long destroys the body eventually. Not enough, with my conditions, can kill you with adrenal crisis. I need to taper as much as I can very very slowly. I still will never get below 10mg which is my dream dose. I pray i can get there. Btw, im so glad you took that prednisone that day because seriously you could've gone into adrenal crisis which has a high mortality rate. Glad you're doing well now. Shame on the doctors that did this to you😢
@MrManimal882 жыл бұрын
As a medical doctor I will throw in a few words here. It is also concerning that the GP who prescribed this for you, did not discuss a tapering strategy with you. Use of corticosteroids is associated with numerous side effects and is one of the most common cause of adrenal insufficiency, which can have serious adverse outcomes. Without a normal corticosteroid production, your blood pressure, electrolytes and glucose homeostasis is severely disturbed. You could all of a sudden faint in the shower, without too much warning. Neither the dose, duration and form of administration can predict this outcome, but generally three weeks of 20 mg Presnisone daily would warrant tapering. In practice, tapering should probably be done after a week of its administration, meanwhile monitoring for no specific symptoms. Please take care, and respect this class of drugs, because it’s side effect profile is significant. Longer-term, it also would be detrimental to your physical performance, being a catabolic hormone. Stay safe.

Dude what happened in your parachute accident?
@ryanbluebowen2 жыл бұрын
Missed the drop zone whole jumping a non steerable canopy, so just had to land wherever the wind took me. Landed on sloping ground in somewhat of a ditch in a farmers paddock and thr l4/l5 disc tore. Massive pain immediately, thought I'd broke my back.

Ryan I highly recommend avoid any pain killers for inflammation, go on an anti inflammatory diet, take HIGH anti oxi foods, like ginger, turmeric, green tea, berries, and seriously. Medical marijuana is EXTREMELY anti inflammatory and it won’t harm your liver/kidneys etc. a lot of ex athletes swear by weed for pain management compared to pharma pain killers.

I don't know what's going on with you buddy but I've had to be on that stuff plenty of times in my life obviously because of bad injuries it was from car wrecks and had nothing to do with arm wrestling. But maybe your doctor should give you a taper down what they do to me and I've never had any kind of do withdrawal symptoms from prednisone ever. I took it for the same reason obviously inflammation 9 months ago I literally had the same blown disc or ripped disc that you had with your parachute jump. I think this was my 8th or 9th Time I've had a blown disc anyways talk to your doctor about a taper down and I'll start real high at 25 mg or whatever and go down 5 mg every day or whatever it is until the last day is only like 4 mg that seems to be the best way because I haven't ever had any withdrawals or anything and prednisone and I've had it many times from other meds so maybe the taper down is the way to go. Just some free advice from somebody that's been through a lot of s***. Good luck in your next match buddy take care.

Mang you guys why do yous rely on meds for pain. Anyway, get sun (for various UV spectrum light, Vitamin D) and Cod Liver Oil (teaspoon a day) or Sardines (Vitamin D, Omega 3 (DHA, EPA) These are all anti-inflammatory. And natural, theyre not going to affect organs negatively. Vitamin D is also a hormone which helps with Calcium absorption for one thing. Think bone health.

'Medicine'/drugs are not to be taken lightly. I am afraid that all this pain relief you guys are automatically take for matches is harmful. I really hope your honesty will help others be more aware of the dangers of adding chemicals to their bodies. It is basically addiction. Yes, I've heard vitamin C is good for withdrawal. Stick with it. (I am a friend of relapsed opioid addict).
