Managers and CEO’s of Big Multi National Companies need to desperately see this. The Indian Corporate world never employs you. It exploits you. Hope this video sends a strong message to them.

Well said, but these big MNCs know the loop holes in the law. So they know the nuances. If you recall, the so called IT companies that call themselves epitome of "standards and just behaviour" are equally guilt. Two of India's companies were caught red handed for VISA Fraud in the US and faced class action suit. Because of which many Business Travellers to that country from India had to face hardship, like can't stay for 90 days, etc etc. So bottom line: even though this video sends a strong message, these idiots know the soft spots to bend the law in their favour.

Our manager said something similar to an employee despite being a woman herself. It isn't in her power to terminate someone but she keeps insulting others.

Even same thing happened with me at the school I was teaching. That was during first lockdown. The manager did not want to keep me bcz I was not the candidate of his choice. Principal just called me up and said we're not continuing for the next year. When I spoke to the manager, he was so rude. Even though I wanted to take action, I didn't bcz I didn't want to mess my life with these priests and court. I left things to God. Surely they will pay for it.

In Canada, I had three of my employees go on Maternity Leave few months apart. I was able to backfill their jobs with temporary contractors and kept their position open until the came back. HR keeps the position open and will never allow me to fill these positions. This is the way it should be everywhere.

No company should be obligated to provide maternity leave. If the employee really cared about her job, she should have not chose to become pregnant in the first place. It is not just about backfilling, but there is cost to hire contractors on top of the cost that is already being paid to employee on maternity leave. That is an expense to the employer. I could understand if the employee is on sick leave or death in the family. However, in the case of pregnancy, the employee had all the power not to get pregnant. The employee willfully decided to get pregnant and then expecting the employer to provide her paid leave....not acceptable.

I was terminated too when I was in my 7th month pregnancy. I was a temporary employee, my contract should've been either extended or I should've made permanent but instead my contract was not renewed because company had no funds to pay, hence they were removing as many employees as possible during June'19 COVID period. I thought fine, it's the case with many people. But within a month's time, there was an opening for my position. I felt betrayed. I was just an MBA graduate from a renowned university having 1 year experience with that company.

Some companies play smart. They let the employee take maternity leaves and later ask them to resign stating that their position is redundant now. So there is no legal issue.

It is mentioned as sabbatical leave instead of maternity leave. In India, if an employee goes on maternity leave she can't be terminated.

Pregnant women are eligible sabbatical leave as per the lae and constitution of indian law. The company has to necessarily provide leave for those working women who are pregnant neither or they can be terminated or sent out of job. The law is clear for all working women who are pregnant.

I am a postgraduate student and we are allowed to take 6 months of maternity leave...but my first three months are going very difficult and I want to take a leave of one month and remaining five months at the end....does anyone know if we can split the leaves? Also my faculty and management is difficult ad non coperating so how do i convince them aldready my pregnancy is in high risk stage kindly suggest

This is one the worst law. Be a boss/owner and see what is like when the same female employee resigns as soon she delivers a baby. Just imagine paying up for 4 months, and then receiving a resignation letter.

@Galaxy Medicos And the most funny thing is, if they do resign companies start asking questions like "You have gap of these many years. Why should we hire you." etc. So they should either change this attitude or they should continue with the way things are. One person being on maternity leave wouldn't bankrupt the company as far as I understand.
