This is sort of a possible spoiler (really minimal though) I don't know about the light novel but in the web novel someone asked once to Maomao if she wasn't interested at all in having children. She answered that she was interested, but leaving aside finding a partner she would first need to detox her body since her resistance to poisons comes from being in constant contact with them. So yeah, your head canon is sort of canon, at least in the wn and might also be in the ln.

I’m more sure he’s actually the current emperors brother. Jinshi is most likely the late/previous emperors second son. Because the current emperor looks kind of young and only has little children/babies so far. Because why would an emperor make his eldest son pretend to be a eunuch instead of making him a crown prince. It’s more logical in a hierarchy standpoint that he wouldn’t want his brother to take over his position as emperor, so making him a eunuch would solve it.
