Wow! This looks amazing! I love Phil Tippett's dinosaurs! They filmed the short movie in his garage, then he got a phone call from CBS to produce more segments for the Christopher Reeve hosted documentary DINOSAURS! where Tippet called his friends to create Apatosaurus, Ornithomimus, Edmontosaurus and Deinonychus for more screen time.

Impressive. I also wish Phil Tippett’s Stop Motion Dinosaur Masterpieces were released on DVD so I could see & watch them anytime either day or night & see every single Go Motion AKA Stop Motion sequences of the Dinosaurs coming to life. Especially the Tyrannosaurus Rex just like this inspirational figure that was based on the creature designed by Phil Tippett.

_'Tippet-saurus'_ ...I *APPROVE (👍)!* I actually saw both "Prehistoric Beast" and the 1985 "Dinosaur" documentary later in life. I _was_ first introduced to the footage alone from the aforementioned documentary through the _"3D Dinosaur Adventure"_ PC game from '93. Needless to say, I was _hooked (😁)!_

Really cool to see someone try their hand at replicating that puppet. Loved Prehistoric Beast. Might go watch it again now lol. Would love to see them follow up with the Centrosaurus/Monoclonius from it too (though the BotM repaint is a fantastic alternative) or those horrifying Deinonychus from the documentary. You did a fantastic job with the paint work as well. Edit: There is images of the sadly desiccated prop out there from an auction house, and another image of the prop prior to desiccation if folks want to compare it. I think you nailed it based on what's out there (including the red eye).

Not a lot of reference shots for this one, the main one I had to go with was one still plus scenes from the special. Def. a unique rex to sculpt, and some of the design decisions I made with it was so that it could stand on its own as it was technically a commission and the client wanted it to be able to stand without a base.

It never dragged it's tail like that. It always balanced the tail directly behind it. That was kind of the point to make it look modern and warm-blooded, and this flies in the face of that. It looks like its trying to be Gorosaurus or something. If they HAD to have the tail touch the floor, it should have only been the tip while the rest was diagonally slanted, at least then it would kind of resemble the original posture. Also, the scales are washed out. Otherwise, the rest looks good, but I wouldn't spend over $50 on that.

Hey dr scott! Thanks for the feedback! here's a few notes on things. it was a commission originally (and I do have the original version of the file without the curved tail and the more prominent scales) but the client wanted it to stand on its own without a base, so I had to make certain design decisions so it could stand on its own. Also the number one criticism I get from customers is that my figures tails take up too much shelf space, so curving it was strategic move. As you notice the final product doesn't actually drag its tail and the curve is implemented to reduce shelf space, but also give it the stop motion feel. The price is reflective of the print time ( 26 hours, 2 dollars per hour of print, plus processing time, equals 50 usd). As for the scaling detail, thats something that happens with the decimation process, printing process, and finally painting. Not much I can do about it unless I apply a clay over the figure and then texture the scales after the fact and that'd drive the cost up even more. It can be very hard to make these things balance right when youre going for a more neosaur stance. But once again, I appreciate the feedback.

@@GojiraSteve2019 The legs are shaped like that, Phil was creating what was, up until that point, the most accurate depiction of a tyrannosaurus. everyone else depicted them as big, and bulky. Scientists believed they were slim and quick back then. But that's how the texturing on the legs look. Feel free to look up the reference images of his stop motion puppet!
