Woolly mammoths roamed parts of Earth's northern hemisphere for at least half a million years. They were still in their heyday 20,000 years ago but within 10,000 years they were reduced to isolated populations off the coasts of Siberia and Alaska. By 4,000 years ago they were gone.

Wow, this video is really informative and visually engaging! It's fascinating to see the size differences between prehistoric and modern animals. However, I can't help but feel like it downplays the incredible adaptations modern animals have gone through. Sure, the giants of the past were impressive, but isn't it also amazing how today's creatures have evolved to survive in vastly different environments? Just a thought!

I really enjoyed this video! The visuals were fantastic and it's always interesting to see how much these animals have changed over time. however, I can't help but think that the comparisons might be a bit misleading. while some species have indeed shrunk or evolved, isn't it also true that many modern animals have retained or even increased in size due to different evolutionary pressures? Just a thought!

great video! i really enjoyed the visuals and the comparisons. but honestly, isn't it a bit misleading to just focus on size? like, sure, some modern animals are smaller, but isn't it more about adaptation and survival than just being big or small? just a thought!

this video is really fascinating and well-made! i love how it visually compares the sizes of prehistoric and modern animals. however, i can't help but wonder if the comparisons might be a bit misleading. while it's interesting to see how much larger some prehistoric animals were, i feel like it oversimplifies the complexities of evolution. size isn't everything, and modern animals have their own unique adaptations that make them just as impressive in their environments. what do you all think?

technically the Smilodon is a Sabertoothed Cat or a Machairodontinae. which was a subfamily of cats that evolved along side the ancestor of Modern Cats subfamily, Felinae (small cats including cougars and cheetahs) and Pantherinae (Big Cats including clouded leopards).
@indyreno29336 ай бұрын
@Xenotaris, actually, "Pantherinae" is not a valid subfamily, all living cat species belong to the subfamily Felinae, thus making Felinae the only cat subfamily that still exists today, in fact, there are only three valid cat subfamilies: †Proailurinae (Primitive Cats), †Machairodontinae (Saber-Toothed Cats), and Felinae (Modern Cats).

Actually, straight-tusked elephants (genus Palaeoloxodon) are more closely related to both asiatic elephants (genus Elephas) and mammoths (genus Mammuthus) than they are to african elephants (genus Loxodonta), african elephants are actually more basal than straight-tusked elephants, asiatic elephants, and mammoths.
@indyreno29336 ай бұрын
Josephoartigasia is actually more closely related to the pacarana (Dinomys branickii) than it is to capybaras (genus Hydrochoerus), both dinomyids and cavies are part of the superfamily Cavioidea, but Dinomyidae is the most basal extant family while cavies are more closely related to cuniculids and dasyproctids, which are equally derived compared to both dinomyids and cavies.

Actually, Smilodon had no closest living relatives, bohebaos (genus Neofelis) are more closely related to the jaguar (Jaguarius onca), all modern cats are more closely related to each other than any is to the genus Smilodon, hence the reason why Felinae is the only cat subfamily still existent today.
