We have 1+(1/3)=4/3 Now 4/3= 1/(3/4)=1/(1-1/4) Now comparing with 1/(1-1/x) we get x=4 .

x =4 let 1-1/x = n but 1-1/x = (x-1)/x so (x-1)/x = n 1/n = 1 + 1/3 1/n = 4/3 hence n = 3/4 (the reciprocal) hence (x-1)/x = 3/4 4(x-1) = 3x ( cross-multiply) 4x-4 = 3x x = 4 Answer

This is rather complicated compared with multiplying both sides by 3, then by (1-1/x), then subtracting 3 from both sides, then multiplying both sides by x from which the answer follows. These are simple operations that can be done without writing anything at all down.

Got it in 20 seconds I have a different technique though We all know that 1+1/3 = 4/3 1/(1-1/x)= 4/3 Then cross multiplying we get 3= 4(1-1/x) 3= 4-4/x 1=4/x x=4

Is there some limitations in this equation? x and 1-1/x can't be 0 so x can't be 0 or 1? 🤔 But luckily answer is none of them.

Nah, too complicated. Immediately compact the RHS to 4/3. Now 1/(1-(1/x)) = 4/3. Cross-multiply everything, so 3 = 4 - 4/x. -1 = -4/x or 1 = 4/x. Cross-multiply again (using 1 = 1/1), so *x = 4* .
