I am a 71 year old gardener that has lost my war with the raccoons. I watched a lot of videos to learn about my options. I found your videos very very helpful so I used your link to order 2 164’ & 2 I believe 84’ poultry fences. I also took your advice and ordered 2 Gallagher s20 solar chargers. I love how easy the 164 went up and I hooked my charger to it. I had forgotten to order a testing meter so after my charger arrived I went on Amazon’s and ordered an inexpensive one. Got everything all hooked up ( green flashing light) but the meter does not work (Or I am not using it correctly!!!😂) So I will make a trip tomorrow to Tractor Supply to see what they might have to help me solve my problem. Thanks again for all your help. I am sure my gardens will be much safer once I finish putting up my fences.

I’m finding out that I’m not near as happy with Starkline’s solar charger. Even tho it’s DC current it fells like a low volt shock. The premier one feels like an ignition coil from a car. But the netting is great! Thanks for watching!!

i just got my starkline today because i've been months trying to get a premier 1 and now that i see the foot step i wish i could of gotten a premier 1 becaues that plastic piece is going to break and then the fence is going to be useless til replaced. so glad its working for you though, so glad to hear that. money is tight for us i was so scared i had just wasted 500 on a fence that wasnt going to work. appreciate your video. thank you have a wonderful day.

Hey! Did you get the Starkline fence with the double spiked step in post? If you did, fear not!! That black plastic is an added part. It covers the metal spikes. In other words it’s not completely made of plastic. If that plastic is removed they look just like the premier one. This is a great fence!!! Really liked your video! I recently ordered Starkline netting, and it has yet to arrive, but I had a quick comment. The Starkline brand uses fiberglass posts and the Premier uses "plastic" posts. (In one ad the Premier posts were called PVC) I think the fiberglass posts are a bit more sturdy and may hold up better than plastic especially where the summers are very hot as they are here in the Central Valley of California. Just my guess. Summers here are hard on plastic.

Follow up: Our Starkline fence had a great first season. It held up great all summer and fall, moving once every 3 weeks on average. We snagged it on plenty of branches and had to pull it out of the dirt where chickens had buried it, but it was never damaged. The shock from one solar energizer connected to 2 fences (48" H x 164' L) was enough to make my dogs yelp and never touch it again. Really important and worth your time to clear the perimeter of grass etc to get the full voltage. Only tiny complaint is the fence doesn't fit nicely into the extra poles - I was worried about fraying the fence trying to squeeze it in the slot on the pole, so I just used a piece of string to tie the fence to the pole instead. Very easy to manage 84' of fence by yourself, easier to manage 164' with two people but still possible by one who is determined. Energizer is weatherproof and held up through many rain storms when we forgot to cover it.

We have three different sets of netting from them. The sheep and goat is in my opinion the best one. I don’t know a ton about the chargers so if you have one just stick with it.

NICE comparison. Wasn't familiar with Starkline. ON the twin spike footing; however, I would grade Premier better. ,Their steel spikes aren't going to brittle & break with age like the other will. Will look further @ Starline, but have been using Premier for several years. THANKS for sharing this video.

The twin spike on the Starkline are steel as well. The black plastic is just to give you a wide step to step them in the ground. It also keeps the bottom hot wire from sliding down on the steel spike and grounding the fence out. Hope this helps to explain. Thanks for watching!!

Just saw a different video about the one big flaw of premier 1 and it was that the net slipped down and contacted the metal portion of the post, shorting the fence. Granted, this was happening as he stepped across the post when he opened the fence to get inside the paddock (should have a gate). From what I'm seeing, that's not going to happen with starkline. Good to know.

Both are great. We do not use a gate. We haven’t had a grounding out problems. But we have found that the Starkline fencing has taken a beating from the pigs. But with a few repairs it’s still in service on our farm. Thanks for watching!

Wonderful comparison! Double spikes are wonderful but are hard to put in rocky ground.. Wondering about longevity of the starkline netting???? I have premier electronetting that is over ten years old. How are the parallel strands of plastic pieces. I bought a cheaper netting once and it is falling apart after 5 years......

I'm thinking of getting some of this to divide up my goat pasture for rotational grazing, and when it's not needed there, to possibly use for chickens. Or bring the goats out to graze other areas with the electric netting. Will poultry netting work for goats? Do you keep the charge the same no matter what animal you are using it for? We already have hotwire running along the top of our goat fence to keep the goats from climbing the fence. I was thinking I could use the same fence charger and just connect the netting to the existing hotwire and charge it off of that. Would that work?

That would work!! The poultry netting would work for the goats too! The only difference is how much wire the charger would have to charge. I think one or two sections of fence would work great. We love the premium poultry netting from Starkline and Premier one. Just don’t buy the least expensive poultry netting from Starkline. The fence post are PVC not fiberglass. I'm looking at putting electric fence netting around my orchard and garden to keep the animals OUT ... and I think I like the Premier simply because it is a smaller weave pattern and that will hopefully keep the rabbits and well as the deer ... out of the garden??

Starkline makes poultry netting as well with smaller mesh and will work for rabbits. Deer will jump. 10’ fence easily so this won’t keep them out. To keep deer out of my garden I wrap fishing line around the garden tied to a noise maker(beer cans). They can’t see the fence so when it touches them they freak out and when the beer cans fall it scares them so much they never come back.

Yes there is a limit. Not sure exactly what that is. Netting that is tightly woven together has more wire to energize meaning it would need more power. We have found that we don’t like the Starkline fence charger. It gives more problems that anything else that we have. Most chargers will say 2 miles or 10 miles. Meaning that’s how much wire they will charge. It makes it hard to judge how much wire is in one section of netting. Try Gallagher fence chargers with the Starkline netting. Go big! Hope this helps! I bought the combo net and Energizer last spring and I HATE it. The Energizer is just plain weak and won't keep predators out and can basically only keep chickens in that don't want to fly. My duck actually found his way in and out everyday. That's how 'hard' this energizer hits. I've not used the premier 1 fencing yet, but the starkline is miserable to work with.

We have learned that the energizer has some grounding issues. If it’s not perfect it doesn’t work well. Now the netting we love. We use the goat and sheep netting from Starkline for our pigs. We use Gallagher chargers works great.
