After a two-year hiatus, Snuff Crew returns with a two-track single, titled “Energy/Psycho”. Snuff Crew are known for being the purveyors of Acid House and Chicago House genres in the early 2000s and with this release the duo continue to show their affinity to the sound while pumping a fresh breath into it.
The track titles embody the spirit of this record. “Energy” has a continuous unfolding rhythm that is visited by a haunting bassline. As it progresses, it evolves further with energy. “Psycho” opens with an impactful vocal work of the word “Psycho” - an immediate hook that is accompanied by minimal drum work. Shortly, it gets intercepted with a gritty acid bassline and a jacking rhythm. This pulsating groove is broken down and reconstructed throughout the track with percussive elements being added and removed, creating a sense of mental jitter - hence, psycho.
“Last summer and after a long time since our last meeting as Snuff Crew, Stefan [one half of Snuff Crew] and I felt the need to come together to revisit the sound that brought us together and that we remain passionate about till this very day. Two years was a long period already. We wanted to keep the flame on so we got back to the studio.
We are reinventing Snuff Crew as an act. Technically, our productions are the pure gem of machine-work. We fire up our gear and get handy with it. There is an immense amount of creativity in there, giving the machine and taking from it in some way. Both tracks were the result of hardware live-recording in the studio. The raw energy in the productions is so immense that we are taking it to the stage. We will perform Live to give the audience this raw experience while they’d still enjoy our sound”, said Benedikt (Schmidt) - the other half of Snuff Crew - on the production and the inspiration behind the release.
The single is a digital release that will come out on Snuff Crew’s own imprint, Snuff Cuts, with an early release date for Bandcamp scheduled for the 9th of August and 23rd of August on all other major platforms.
