The strings are a "custom" set .010, .012, .016, .024, .036, .046. Dudley, the chief gear designer from EBMM, came up with that, John tried them out and he LOVES them. And the 7-string you might ask? Same as the six-string, but with a handy .056 gauge for the "low B".

I heard John's tech Matt said he uses the String Action gauge by StewMac (Stewart-McDonald). It's a "must-have" piece which I cannot do without on my guitars and bass. My action on my guitars are fairly high to most people. And my basses are set lower than others. i set my basses either 2 millimeters on the treble side and slightly 2 in-a-half millimeters on the bass side. Or a 4/64" going gradually down to a heavy 3/64" on the high side ('cause I'm a fan of Flea from the band Red Hot Chili Peppers).

I like that baritone guitar. The BFR (Ball Family Reserve) model before coming out with the JP10's and JP11's. A nice tobacco burst finish. The DIMarzio pickups are CrunchLab and Liquifire from his signature models. A long scale length; 27 inches. Tuned to A on one song "On These Walls" (the only song with the baritone tuned to A). I haven't played a baritone guitar or can't play one AT ALL. But if anyone wants to jam along, that's fine and it works for me.

I recently had a friend who is also a tech to come up and help me configure my pedals, pedal board, my amp etc. It's then when I realized how much I actually suck at those things and how important is to have a professional that can help you with getting the sound you desire. As someone who wants to PLAY and MAKE music, it is really hard to keep track of all those details yourself. John is lucky to have this guy and every other musician should be super grateful for having one. Getting those awesome sounds out of your amp and your effects takes a lot of time and effort, almost as much as actually playing.

Distortion is distortion especially the over saturated pre-amp kind but I guarantee if you crank your Dual-Rec it will be alot more dynamic and tight, thats the nature of tubes, but Axe-FX II is a great studio tool, especially with the patches that come out all the time but tube tone will never be beaten, it only takes a good pair of ears to know that.

@peripheraldevotee94
@peripheraldevotee94 10 жыл бұрын
Well, they are using in-ears and micing cabinets, but like I was saying earlier, the style of DT's music demands the amount of pedals and amps JP uses. And they all use power. However, it's worth noting that the Axe-FX did get rid of heaps of rack-mounted stuff in JP's rig, which likely ate up even more power than this rig does. As far as I know, the Boogie amps are all set on 90W (as opposed to 45 or 10), but JP said this occurs only because of the resulting amount of dynamic headroom one gets.

I've used one and I wouldn't use it over my Mesa Boogie Roadster and TC Electronics G-System. My rig is fairly simple...Other than what I named I use...A Maxon OD808, Behringer Rack Tuner, Furman PL-Plus C Power Conditioner, BBE 882i Sonic Maximizer, and a Rocktron Hush Super C. Easy to move around. Nice and clean. Not really a jumble of wires. Bring in my cabinet. Role in my rack/head case. Plug in about 3 wires and I'm ready to go. It's all about preference really. The Axe FX is nice though.

The Piezo system in these guitars are absolutely the best I have tried. The tone can be set with small controls inside the control cavity. At first I thought this was limiting. But it truly is set it & forget it. Use something like a Fractal & nylon string tones are really convincing. They're great electric guitars, but the Piezo doesn't get the mention it deserves.

Ah. We might be talking about different things. I meant power as in the the actual volume/wattage, hence my miking up a practice amp thing! Clearly I'm not going to argue about the FX and PSUs John needs and I know there are good reasons for using whatever he feels he wants to. I just like the idea that you could, in theory, run a DT gig's guitar sound through a 20w Orange Crush or something.

If you're thinking the size of the rig is overkill, then you might want to consider playing music in a venue larger than a pub. The amount of power required for concerts in theaters and stadiums has to be high, in order to project the sound over large distances. Oh, and try playing a genre more complex than blues before you start whining about how many pedals get used. Progressive music has always required guitarists to have a wide palette of tones on hand; even more so when mixed with metal.
