every musician I've met who was obsessed with music (and every weirdo) all loved Jesus Lizard. If you play this for people who aren't really into music, they hate it lol I think only because David Yow could never make american idol, but his vocals were amazing. I grew up in the mid 00s scene listening to mostly hardcore and metalcore bands but I was also really into Mathrock bands and grind. I listened to a LOT of Daughters when I was younger who have a very clear influence from The Jesus Lizard. Listened to a lot of Arab on Radar and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. The influences didn't make sense to me when I was a kid but now that I'm older and I'm revisiting music from my young adulthood and finding their influences it's clear as day. If you would like to listen to a heavier, more chaotic version of TJL I implore anyone who reads this comment to listen to the band Daughters from Rhode Island

Came into metalcore after the youth crew revival of the late 90s that laid the groundwork for contemporary metalcore... was a prog rocker/punk before that. I had always loved math rock, noise and post stuff but you put it really well "the influences didn't make sense to me when I was a kid". I'm 31 now and I have this experience with a lot of other music from my youth now with different bands.

I, also, bow to Duane, and I've long considered him the greatest guitar player in alternative rock, whatever that means, right? The Jesus Lizard were truly one of the greatest bands ever, and I feel like each member had such a unique style that the band, together, were goddamn fascinating. And they rocked, so hard! Anyway, I have to say that, eventually, this leason will come in handy, but I ask you guitar players out there, have you tried actually playing this riff yet? I'm a little miffed at Denisen, currently, for calling this "easy," Even if he did say "relatively" or some other qualifier, that's still bullshit. This thing is a bitch to play in tempo, but I do like a challenge! Such a cool riff, and I can't wait till I can actually play it! What a song, and what a band!
