This is great! I was a huge KARP fan and I love Big Biz. I always thought Jared had one of the best bass tones in KARP. The Mel9 and Pog sound amazing together. Love how Jared mentioned Unwound in the first 3 minutes of the video. This was a blast to watch.

Tight Bros From Way Back When is one of the greatest rock bands that ever existed, Bride Screamed Murder one of the greatest albums ever and Big Business are awesome. This guy has the Midas touch as far as I'm concerned. Loses points for looking too much like Seth Rogan here though.

Jared is a perfect example of why I consider myself a "bass guitar player", and not so much a "bass player." The two little details that might go past people are the P-Bass vs Jazz argument and rolling back the tone for bass distortion sounds.
@ewetoo3 жыл бұрын
Yeah bass players are very hung up on those kind of details and will have different basses for exactly those reasons. I got a Squire CV70's Jazz just so I could play punk/funk and keep my G&L SB-2 for the more blues/rock/soul/reggae tones. Athough I'm about to take delivery of a Yamaha 735a that might rewrite all those ideas again.... I should add that the Jazz has roundwounds and can imitate a Precision when it wants to (a good bassplayer knows how) and the SB-2 has flats. I don't dabble in alternative tunings however.

It's the same with refinned mics, as with old amps. People might say they prefer a vintage U47. But in a lot of ways, it's probably degraded a lot compared to how it was originally designed sound. Then people say contradictory things like it sounds just like the old records. But the mic doesn't sound now, like it did then, when it was orginally manufactured. The old record sounds like the the original amps and mics before the gracefully degraded, with age.

Big Business with a prominent mention of Unwound (Melvins too)...best rundown since Deerhoof. Excellent bands for bassists looking for a worthy high gain bass tone. The pedal demos online trying to showcase dirt on a bass rig invariably sound gutless & fizzy, and it's obvious they're completely out of their element. They need to listen to bands like Big Business & Unwound (among others like Johnboy, Unsane, Lightning Bolt, et al) to understand what compelling bass dirt should sound like.
@Lokeacola3 жыл бұрын
Thank you PG! I've been waiting so long for this video. This band got me into music and have been my favorite band since I saw them open for the melvins in tacoma when I was a kid. I was a shy kid and didnt have the guts to talk to bands I liked but I messaged Jared about guitar pedals and he got back to me and he was really nice. His sound is so unique and rad, its really cool that these guys aren't keeping their sound a secret like some and instead excited to be sharing the joy of music. If you are a music fan and ever get the chance to see them live, do it! I cant wait to hear the new songs. These guys are the real deal.
