I love this. Give them any guitar and they’ll play the hell out of them. Your average 13 year old guitar player can play any song by the Hives and that’s awesome. I would rather listen to the hives than joe satriani.

They are amazing minimalistic: they play with cables, 1 cable each, unplugging on every guitar change themselve. one or two amps and cable. The singer, being one of the most active running around on the stage and in the crowd with a few hundred meter cable. They are a real rock band, not like others with guitar techs switching their pedals.... whats next the techs playing?

As if a band having a big sound that requires someone to trigger multiple pedals behind the scenes that the guitarist cant do on stage is a bad thing.

thank you for using the word appropriately. yes, they are hideously underrated. i hate it when an indiv uses the word to describe an artist whose music only he likes but his friends don't like and then he thinks that applies to the rest of the world when in fact that artist is actually pretty fackin famous.

I don't mind at all that Nicholaus Arson isn't a gear geek (not that there's anything wrong with being a geek). He cares about the sound and he loves playing but he's not bothered with the technicality of it all, he's more about the music and the sound. What's so bad about that? Maybe not the best subject for a rig rundown feature but that's not his fault. Someone also pointed eye contact. Some people are just a bit shy and uncomfortable with that. Who cares?

How are all these people saying that these guys don't know anything about their rig? Plain and simple, if you're not U2, metallica or Rush, you just take any amps that work, sound good and are available at the location, and guitars that perform well and that they can beat up on the road. The vintage expensive stuff stays home, for use in the studio.

You seriously consider this to be the worst of the series? You obviously haven't seen the Dinosaur Jr. video. You can't always expect the musicians themselves to be super enthusiastic for an interview. Usually the best RR's are the ones with the techs. It's rare when you get the actual artist with a well known like The Hives to show you around their whole setup themselves

It's always exciting to have another guitar player in your band. Having someone to bounce ideas off of, and potentially share thoughts and ideas about playing style, gear, and the love of the instrument itself. Unless, of course, the other player is Mr. Arson whom just plays, and doesn't much like to discuss it. Thrilling......

The thing is: Just because we are total gearheads doesn't mean that all guitarists out there are, and have to be. No. I know a lot of players who just don't really care about the details of equipment and stuff. They use whatever works for them. This guy would probably be equally happy with a Squier Tele and the cheapest Fender-style tube amp out there. Give these guys a break. They are often brilliant in what they do, they just don't give so much a shit about with what they do it.
