I have one. It is oval in shape has the Nazi Swastika on a helmet and SS right below it and 2 swords crisscrossing below the helmet. One of my uncles friends were in a group that were Pathfinders and he killed a Nazi officer. I'll give it to you, if you want it?

The infantry assault badge was also awarded to the ground Luftwaffe radio troops, the Luftwaffe ground troops were used to send radio communications about enemy positions on the ground so that the Luftwaffe could know were to bombard the enemy positions.

I have the radio operator badge. I sold the Minensuch Abzeichen. My mothers uncle was rewarded with the wounded badge in gold. His brother had the wounded batch in black and the infanterie sturmabzeichen in bronze for motorized infantery. I have these (his) medals now.

Great video. One exception: The wound badge - actually wounded badge - was issued in black , silver, and gold. There was no bronze.

I’ve been collecting German badges since 83 when I was stationed in the UK. I have most of these mentioned here. This is a pretty good video for a basic foundation on German badges. If you want to learn more about these badges, find the book “For Fuhrer and Fatherland” by John R. Angolia. Good book with a lot of information if you can find it. Good luck collector’s and know what you’re looking at before you buy. Do your homework. Great video. 👍🏻

The Infantry Assault badge was also in a bronze version. My father was a Sgt. in a US Army Combat Engineer Battalion and was at the battle of the bulge. I have a silver panzer assault badge that he brought home and gave to me. With so many well made fakes out there now, I know this one is real.

The Parachutist Badge of the Heer and Waffen SS was different from the version of the Luftwaffe. The oak leaves where in gold with a small Reichsadler plus swastika on top of it, the eagle in the middle was in silver and without a swastika.

Excerpt of the regulations for awarding the close combat clasp: Close combat days to be counted are: a) All days of combat on which the fighters to be awarded had the opportunity to see "the white in the enemy’s eye”, i.e. to have fought hand-to-hand with the opponent with close-combat weapons up to the last decision.

This is very helpful. I'm going to share it on a German genealogical FB page. May I suggest for future such videos that you include the German language name with the English language? It might make it more useful for researchers. I'm not asking you to try to pronounce the German LOL. Thank you!

Great video! Can someone here help me? My German grandmother received a cross after my German grandfather passed away during WWII. It is a silver thin cross made out of 3 flat nails, with double strands of iron wire holding it together in the center. The top of the cross nail has three markings- a horiontal raised bar and below that two small stamps almost like looking like opposing manuscript scrolls, and the horizontal nails have a series of dots on the top of them. The cross is about three inches top to bottom, and two inchest wide. ????

For the wound badge. If you get multiple bullets in one assault do you get an upgrade from the basic badge?
@tiagomonteiro130
@tiagomonteiro130 2 жыл бұрын
Yes the wound badge has different classes it depends on how many wounds you got for example the Black 3rd class is awarded for one or two wounds, Silver for 3 to 4 times and Gold for five or more times wounded
@alansmith3327
@alansmith3327 9 ай бұрын
NO. They are awarded for separate wound,s. Or loss of limbs etc. You could receive the Silver for one wound if it resulted in the loss of a limb. Or the Gold for total disability.

bought a ww2 german pilots badge the guy who sold it to me found it in italy while metal detecting he had a few pieces that he had found pieces of planes tanks that had been destroyed in battle the pilots badge had much dirt and had been heavily encrusted it cleaned up really well but still has much dirt a great piece and didn't cost a lot i am going to a military fair in Brisbane Australia at the end of may. The man i bought the badge off showed photos of the badge wedged in the ground so i know it is definitely real it does have a little bit of corrode on the back of the badge the badge had been under the earth for a long time.
