Yeah, it's probably pretty easy to make an almost perfectly flat lawn even flatter. I challenge you to come and level my lawn! Good luck!
@videostarish2 ай бұрын
I discovered a great way of 'flattening' (not levelling) anything. I use this method for seeing how badly a wall has been plastered/taped. I just use a strong torch in a darkened room, & put the torch as close to the wall as possible, & shine it across the wall It usually looks like craters on the moon..! So, if YOU use a halogen floodlight or car headlight across a lawn at night, you will be surprised..! 👍

I was a plasterer and roughcaster for many years, I'm from Perthshire in Scotland, and we always just used local quarry sand that was used by us and the brickies, then I moved to London and experienced disasters trying to just use building sand. It's so full of clay there, and they sell "platering sand" separately, which is just washed sand that is really coarse, l hated it, it was a real learning curve, but long story short: I'm back in Perthshire, and our local building sand is fine for lawns...

I have that compost spreader and it works amazing, because it's for compost not sand, that top dressing of sand would never work in any compost spreader, chuck a dry bag of compost in it and they are a great tool to have, you use far less compost so it pays for itself in the long run and puts just the right amount of soil in the lawn

Guys, Great video, good banter. I have recently taken over a 1000 sqm lawn which has been mown historically with a mulching mower. There is significant thatch and therefore bounce. Due to weather last year I never achieved a low enough cut to scarify. We are there now, I was going to spring Tine it then cut again, then treat it with a weed and feed. I’m not sure to then use the blade scarifier….. thoughts?

What if you have decent sized hollows? Do you fill them with topsoil and seeds? Or do multiple small passes in the year?
@Farming-Technology4 ай бұрын
You can only really dress out about 2 inches per time. Either method you suggest is acceptable. But the seed should be the same as the rest of your lawn if you dig, topsoil and seed as the grass may have a different shade/ texture. Just bare that in mind if it will bother you.

You don't top dress with sand! You use top dressing soil, using sand will damage the blades of the mower. You only top dress the likes of a bowling green for a better playing surface. The avarge lawn is about 50 square metres 90% of people would not have the tools or could even afford to buy the tools. If the lawn is not level it was not laid properly. Another way to level then lawn is to lift the turf and add soil to level it
