Look at the unbelievable quality of this kick by Marcus Smith from the half way line right into the corner 1:28:30. The commentators don't even mention it. Too busy with their sweeping generalisations, highly dubious analyses and unwanted anecdotes.

It was just a penalty kick not taken from the half way line not in to the corner, hardly worth mentioning

The forwards are just as delighted when the throw in s from 5 metres or 8 metres, as in this case (it makes no difference at all if the kick finds touch less than 5 metres). As for your first point how far into the kickers' own half makes it an exceptional quality kick?

Commentators, SHUT UP when the ref is explaining the penalty. Let us listen to why this particular drop of the shoulder was a crime, instead of you explaining that there an old geezer on the team. If he can't make the tackle legally, he shouldn't make the tackle. It's simple really. You can actually see an example in the 2nd smith try where James backs out of the tackle because he can't make it legally.
