Good morning noon and evening to all of my absolute legends out there. I hope you are all keeping well. In this video ladies and gents we are discovering the abilities of two very popular bushcraft saws available on the market today. First off is my newest saw I have added to the kit is the silky saw outback. The outback is a folding saw with razor like teeth and proves devastating in its effects when posed against any timber foder. Second but certainly not last is the Boreal 21 folding bow saw. This Is also a folding saw by design. combine that with its interchange saw blades and solid aluminium build quality and you have a highly recommended effective cutting tool. Let the games begin.

I have both enjoy them equally for straight bucking wood but, the Silky2000 pulls out front when it's time to fall a dead standing. If I'm carrying an Axe I'll bring my Bow Saw, my knife and my neck knife. If I'm not carrying an axe I'll bring my Silky2000 and a larger knife for splitting and again my neck knife. The Boreal 21 and Silky both have their place in my pack. Good review my friend.

That makes sense. I try to carry tool combinations that give me an excuse to carry my axe 😂 even though half the time I rarely use it. Both great saws. Thanks for stopping by buddy. Take it easy.

Great new looks, definitely a future in modelling. A great review of two of, probably, the most popular saws. Personally, I do rate silky saws. Although the traditional bushcrafters would probably go towards the Boreal 21. At the end of the day, it's personal preference.

Haha it's not by choice and now I have an upside down head. Oh well thats what caps were made for haha. I agree there is some nostalgia connected with the Boreal saw as it was carried by the old-timers and lumber jacks into the woods. Thanks for stopping by buddy. Take it easy.

Seeing the length of the boreal, silky katanaboy 500 would have been a more fair comparison, albeit devastating for the bow saw
@BushcraftWithSteOutdoors
@BushcraftWithSteOutdoors 7 ай бұрын
Indeed it would! 😆 I found when using the bow saw I don't actually use the full length of the saw blade maybe leaving around 2" per side on the forward and back stroke so I'm only cutting with around 16" worth of the blade, so it kinda evens it out a bit in comparison. The katana boy would make the bow saw look like a mini hacksaw 😂 thanks for dropping in. Take care.

Hello mate. Looking decidely chilly there now man. As for the saws it seems to me that it's six of one and half dozen of the other. I think if I needed a saw I would be content with either. My regards to J please. Be safe and be lucky man.

Love it geezer imbrace the baldness lol I’d do the same sir….I do want a big boy but i have seen a few YT vids where it’s bent or snapped ..if you had to choose one what would be your choice sir?
@BushcraftWithSteOutdoors
@BushcraftWithSteOutdoors 8 ай бұрын
Hey there buddy thanks for dropping by. I would honestly choose the big boy. It has less limitations than the Boreal and under proper use the silky will be as reliable as the fixed blade on the Boreal. Pair that with the ability to saw thicker diameter timber straight through the silky is a clear winner. Take it easy fella.

Noticeably more effort was placed into the Silky saw. Idk if it was deliberate, but you clearly have a bias. This is going to come across douchy, but the Silky is a strong meh. Silky saws are the most overrated saw in the industry. I have no preference for the bow saw either. I live in Japan, and have used a litany of the Silky competitors, and *ALL* out perform the Silky, with the Silky being literally 4 and 5 times the price. There are a litany of scientific videos here on youtube comparing the Silky's to the other Japanese saws and it looses, badly.. I own 4 Silkys after watching hundreds of videos, and after listening to the preaching from the bushcraft community. Remember guys, bushcraft is a hobby, and to pretend it's anything more is a grift. I'm a prior SERE instructor, BOSS alumni, and virtually none of the skill honed from this community are even remotely relevant to real life, or practical in a survival scenario. So dont believe the preaching from the community due to it's bias, dont place high value on opinions, or treat these reviews like gospel. This was a fine video, I have nothing negative to say about the man in such a glorious coat, but this was just a man testing out some saws. I really love that coat; if you see this it looks great on you boss. Go out and test for yourself bois. With very minimal effort and at 1/5 the price of the Silky, and this bow saw, there are far better. Hell, the Coronas *WAY* outperform the Silkys and I think they're made here in America. There are countless; as real as possible with scientific instruments to remove as many variables as possible, that test the Silky against a litany of other saws, and though it really is a really, really good saw, and far better than 80%; def better than this bow saw as well, I promise there are orders of magnitude better than both for a fraction of the price. I dont mean to be so dramatic, it's just whenever I see a Silky video I feel compelled to acknowledge they're way over priced. I have some really Gucci custom made saws; one that I foolishly paid $600 for, so I'm not advocating to not spend the money. It's just the Samurai, Corona, several other Japanese brands can all be had for under $20, vs the $100 plus plus price of the Silky and the Bob Dustry rip off. Seriously, where did you get that jacket? I really like it. Hell you should do a video on that bad boy!

😄 🤣 Hey there. Hey, listen, I totally agree with your comment. The problem with bushcraft tools in general now is that knives, saws, and axes-the market is 110% saturated with a million different types of each. No one tool is perfect for everyone; it can only be perfect for the individual user. Before the Boreal 21, I used a Laplander for everything because Ray Mears said so. 😄 I used the Boreal for a while and was quite happy with it until I got hold of the Outback, and that won over! Now I know there will be saws out there that I haven't even heard of that if I tried against the Outback, I would probably be impressed with that saw's performance, but I stopped at the Silky because for me, it's a fantastic saw. Pricey? Undoubtedly, but it works for me. The jacket is a Fallkniven Lumberjack, I think. A quality jacket is very warm. Take it easy, fella. Thanks for the comment.
