Join Dare Turner (Yurok Tribe), Curator of Indigenous Art at the Brooklyn Museum; Leila Grothe, Associate Curator of Contemporary Art at the Baltimore Museum of Art; and Elise Boulanger (Citizen of the Osage Nation), Curatorial Research Assistant at the Baltimore Museum of Art, for a special discussion of Preoccupied: Indigenizing the Museum.
Featuring Indigenous artists whose works include paintings, sculptures, installations, films, and more, Preoccupied: Indigenizing the Museum highlights both contemporary and traditional artworks that explore generations of cultural and creative legacies. Comprised of nine exhibitions, multiple public programs, label and collection interventions throughout the museum, and a beautiful publication, this multi-faceted initiative addresses the historical oppression and erasure of Indigenous cultures while creating an opportunity for meaningful community engagement.
