Brian, just so you know, your spell damage increases by amount of Faith just like Melee will scale off off Strength can make for interesting combos as there are more Faith spells/Faith dependant weapons than any other in game so you have plenty of options as a Strength/Faith build.

Not sure if you tried it Brian ,but you can powerstance (dual weild_ any weapon of same type for a unique move set when using what would be your block button or L1 on xbox controllers) And just fyi the unique skill of straight swords "square off" has 2 unique special attacks that can stagger most enemies even into late game if weapon is upgraded to match enemy levels. Good Luck will be fun to watch

Brian, a little lore background for your Confessor class. Confessors are the loyal servants of the Two Fingers who use their abilities in service of the Roundtable Hold to assassinate those Tarnished who strayed from the guidance of Grace. Their unique Black-Kay Crossbow and it's Burred Scarlet Rot bolts can be found in the lower Roundtable Hold behind behind an Imp door. So knowing or not you chose a magical stealth assassin class 😊

If you are especially skilled, the only known requirement atm for starting the dlc is access to the egg in Mogh's arena. So if you follow Varre questline and know the areas you could beat Godrick moving Varre to the Rose church, do the invasions, and cloth dousing and then use the special item Varre gives you to reach Mogh's domain and then defeat him before reaching level 20 ( and use the 400k reward to level up) to make the dlc available though this would be very hard to do it's not impossible.
