the "max legroom" joke flew over many people's heads. its a max headroom reference which was some dude who hacked into a tv network i believe.

Max Headroom was a character from a variety of weird satirical cyberpunk shows in the late 80s, also used in advertising by Coke. Kinda weird that the original character has gotten overshadowed by the pirate broadcast incident, where a guy hijacked Channel 4's signal to broadcast his own weird Max Headroom bit, cable access style.

It's a caricature of American black stereotypes at the extreme level. Weird hairstyles, using wrong words in sentences, the uncalled for bravado. I think that's why Ash doesn't get it.

to be fair, this is one of those skits that's not as intuitive as a lot of others. The comedy in this skit is good but the general appeal to the comedy in this sketch is likely a little lower because of the oddity of the characters that make up the conflict/majority of the jokes.

@@Spartannex True. This and Continental Breakfast made me and my friends laugh harder than any other K&P skit when we first saw them. They also happen to be a lot of people's least favorite because they're so random and weird. I just find the ridiculous absurdity hilarious. Not for everyone. I've seen people either die laughing or just stare, confused and not getting it. There isn't much to get, it's just ridiculous. I also love some of the more smart "narrative" driven ones like Flicker and Cat Poster.

There are no aliens in Firefly. The reason it's filmed in space is because humans terraformed empty planets in their efforts to colonize them. All the societies and conflicts are between humans; there are no rubber-faced aliens. Also, the term "froggy" in the Key and Peele sketch is from an '80s American expression. Back then, if two guys were about to fight, one of them would say, "If you feel froggy, then jump" to antagonize his opponent to take a swing, like "Come at me." It's made sort of a comeback with the whole retro thing.

I think you should check out Colin Jost's comedy speech at the White House Correspondent's Dinner this past weekend. There is a 5 minute highlight video on ET's (Entertainment Tonight) channel, but it would be WELL worth it to watch the 23 minute bit (there are multiple posts of the speech on KZbin).
