We bought ginger at Aldi's and left it on the counter because we simply didn't end up cooking with it. It started growing, so we planted it!! There's a foot long shoot coming up now. I'm excited for gardening this year. I'm thinking about buying turmeric and doing the same thing!

Mrs. H… Dear Lord! Two days ago, it was 90° here in central Texas; today, it feels like late fall/ early winter out there! The sun is hiding away again and it’s pouring down rain. Not complaining though; within a week it’ll be 90° again. I refuse to turn on the heat, even for a second, and those blankets that have been laundered and put away for the season are staying “put away”. Have a blessed day y’all!😊

I grew potatoes, garlic, and onions from the grocery store. Saved some of the garlic seeds to try to plant later. Now if I can just find them? Beets will grow in the shade. Along with any veggie that is leafy. No flowers that need pollinating. Since the pollinators are disappearing.

thanks for the video! You got me running to the kitchen and slicing up some sections that had buds to scab over before planting :) ps: I have been having issues with ants too and one bed they were so bad I used cinnamon on them and it wiped them out instantly. Supposedly, some gardeners use cinnamon on their seed start mix to keep mold from growing so I had tried that & it does help (hopefully it won't hurt the plants)....but it did work too on the ants.

I started a chunk of ginger a couple months ago and the shoots are just now coming up above the soil. A month ago I moved them into a warmer room with a south facing window and they seem to be doing better. So now to wait until May when I can put them into a big pot outside here in Colorado. Come fall, they will either come in for more growth in a South window or be harvested and dried old school and then ground up into powder. Hoping to get a chunk of Turmeric soon also to grow!
