Maybe with a Deadman switch to make it easy to abort at any point
@Ithirahad3 жыл бұрын
Probably because it's a work in progress and so far, their ignition sequence doesn't have very many steps. If this was a full-scale rocket with a mess of purge valves to open and close, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems to pressurize, and monitor sensors to turn on, and flight computers to arm, and a hundred other things, automating would make sense.
@nigeljohnson98203 жыл бұрын
@@Ithirahad one of the advantages of an automated sequence is that it reduces the possibility of human error. If more sensors are added, it may be necessary to automate. It can be difficult to computerising a diverse number of interfaces, such as the high speed camera, as a simple on/off input may not be available. Cable management becomes a problem, as more devices are added, and maybe some sort of data bus will be required, with distributed computing to handle the the bus data bottleneck.
@Ithirahad3 жыл бұрын
@@nigeljohnson9820 Exactly; it seems like a good idea on paper but there are major technical challenges associated with automating. It gives more consistent results, sure, but trying to get all of the equipment to work together on an automated sequence is probably worthy of a long video series of its own. Probably not the sorts of decisions you want to make while so much stuff is still in flux.
@nigeljohnson98203 жыл бұрын
@@Ithirahad it is certainly a big project in its one right. I agree it is not practical while still experimenting, as it could be very wasteful. Potentially it could enhance safety, by implementing a number of interlocks. I can see the problems, such as adjusting the NOx release to occur after the was has ignited. It will not solve the problem of ensuring the manual oxygen and NOx tank master valves are in the correct position.
