Thanks alot about the runners info. I wouldn't hv thought to do that, but it makes lots of sense. Think smarter, not harder, with row covers. I really appreciate info & this video.

What do you do with the runners that you clipped off that hadn't rooted?
@angeladianne4654Ай бұрын
I’m in Michigan zone 6. Is it too late to cut the runners after the first snow? I’m assuming yes but wanted to ask. Thank you!

Perfect timing. That was on the to do list for this weekend. Thanks

Which type of strawberry plant would you say grows best/best yield/ hardiest in zone 5, Utah?
@StoneyAcresGardeningАй бұрын
I love day neutral/Everbearing for my garden, but we like them for the continual harvest so that we have fresh berries all year. But if you are going for max yield then June bearing may be the better choice.

I have several of my strawberry plants in a strawberry urn. Is it advisable to bring potted strawberries indoors, or do they need to be outside? How best to protect them if they are left outside? I am in Zone 6b. Thanks!
@StoneyAcresGardeningАй бұрын
I'm in the same zone as you and my potted strawberries do okay over the winter. Just cover them up and maybe move them to a more protected area and they should be fine. Of course if you want to and if you have space you can bring them inside a garage or shed for the winter.

Question! I live in the mountains. In about a week or two, there will be snow cover in the beds until about April next year. Our lowest lows are about 5°F, with most lows being between 15-20°F. Would you recommend a cover on the beds if the snow will be over the beds for almost the entirety of winter?
@StoneyAcresGardeningАй бұрын
Yes I would still cover the beds with straw to help protect them.

Don't know where you live but here in zone 7b we never have to cover strawberry plants for the Winter. In fact, we can even plant these in December.

I live in California in zone 8b. I don't think you would want to put frost cover on the strawberry plants for the whole winter. It can get warmer during the day.Would you agree?
@StoneyAcresGardeningАй бұрын
Yes for somewhere warm like you that wouldn't be needed.

You don't need to cover them at all. Trust me.

❤ i love my strawberrirs, i just covered them with shredded leaves but wont cover them will they be ok this winter? I didnt cover them all just around the plant is that all i need?❤
@StoneyAcresGardeningАй бұрын
I've always found that if I tuck them in well they do better the next year. When I don't completely cover them I loose plants and get off to a slow start in the spring.

@StoneyAcresGardening this is my first year really trying to grow strawberrie and tried putting shreaded leaves around them but I'm hoping I'm doing it right just not sure how much leaves to put around the plant.

This is exactly what I needed to hear since this was the first time I grew strawberries. The thing I'm a bit confused about is that I don't recognize any runners. I have one plant in a dishtub along with two nasturtiums, all of which have filled the pan and at this point the strawberry plant is pretty much mixed into the flowers as far as I can tell. I wanted to remove and transplant the strawberry plant into something larger but now I'm not sure. Is it possible not to have runners? I did have one early in the summer which I clipped off because it was outside the tub but that's it as far as I can tell. Any advice or insight?
@StoneyAcresGardeningАй бұрын
Yes if the plant wasn't really thriving and just new it might not have many runners.

Will straw serve ok as compost? Or what else could I buy to use as rhe compost, i do have some manure/compost mixed bags could I use that?
@StoneyAcresGardeningАй бұрын
No the straw is for mulch, the compost is to add nutrients to the soil. The manure/compost mix should be fine to put down before you cover with the straw or a row cover.
