Marinating the pork in soy sauce and calamansi before sauteing it will make it taste 10X better. Also, adding eden cheese chopped in cubes to the buko salad will give it more depth.

Hi Jessica, good way of preparing and cooking all the meals. You missed the sweet & sour sauce dippings for the shanghai but you can easily make one at your kitchen. Just mix 3 tbsp of vinegar, 2 tbsp of soy sauce, 1 tbsp of raw white or brown sugar, a tbsp of ketsup, dash of ground white or black pepper in cup of water and you need a little conrstarch slurry for making the sauce thicker. Boil the mixture in a pot and taste it at your taste bud like is it fine for sourness and sweetness, you may adjust the flavor by adding sugar or vinegar and add the cornstarch mixture gradually while stirring to consistency. Enjoy! 🙂

Good job.. white onions are usually for cooking and red onions are usually for salad or kilaw, and for the menudo you also did a good job that is the basic menudo.. liver is actually optional.. ❤❤❤❤

I dont like raisin too.,but iloveliver 😅 In kapampangan old way they are marinating the meat(with liver) with calamansi,pepper ,soy sauce& bayleaf for 1hr(ithink) then boiled it in marinated sauce before sauteed with the usual way of cooking❤ jessica did a good job considering it's her 1st time 🎉😂

You should marinate the pork in kalamasi and soy sauce overnight or at least 30min before cooking to get that real menudo taste and you need to sauté and simmer the pork longer to make it softer

most dishes in Manila are sweet, They usually put sugar and raisins. For us Bulakenyos, we don’t do that. we have different way of cooking (to all the dishes with sauce,eg, caldereta, afritada, adobo, mechado,and many more). We boil the ingredients first( sangkutsa) then just after the meat became tender then that’s the time when we saute the whole meal with another set of onion and garlic. Bulakenyo’s don’t put sugar and raisins in menudo and giniling (minced pork) etc..menudo for us have all these ingredients,pork meat, bell pepper, bay leaf, onion and garlic,margarine, black pepper, calamansi, soy sauce, cheese, hotdogs, pork liver and liver spread..When I’m studying in Manila I’ve learned that most of the food in Manila are sweet and doesn’t fit my taste buds.

Lol! For water measurement ,you just use your index finger and place your index finger tip on the rice surface and water level should be on the first joint or segmented line. Disregard right away what they said that rice depth is the basis for water measurement , ,imagine cooking ten kilos of rice in a big pot. Hahaha!!

Before I didn't like raisin but there's one time (I didn't know who cooked) that the raisin taste really good. Since then I like raisins in menudo but not all the time. It depends who cooked it.

i hope you washed all the cans and the tetra packs/plastic packagings. i just get paranoid because i always think to myself that a lot of hands touched them, we don't know where these items were placed and if the stock rooms of grocery stores (especially the small ones) are clean and we don't know if there's rat piss (especially in cans) that can cause leptospirosis and other diseases.
