Preparing to undertake a Collins Adelaide B double, M7 motorway/Hume Highway southbound, 1:30PM 10th March 2018

All the trucks sit in the right lane southbound on the M7 (from Bernera Rd Exit to Hume) as the left lane ends very suddenly once you merge onto the Hume and that way they have more time/can see traffic so they end up in the left lane of the Hume Motorway. I see them do this all the time there and yes have to undertake them.

As Retired Heavy Truck Operator I reckon Mr Collins B-Double should have been in the Lane were he is eventually Passed . Lane 1 . That is NOT undertaking , technically . Both lanes are clearly marked . The Truck IS in the wrong by hanging in the right lane unnecessarily .
@davidhenry38332 жыл бұрын
Exactly, I was also taught that. If there are no line markings where the road is wide enough for 2 vehicles and you pass on the left, that's undertaking and you shouldn't do it. If there are line markings then all good, go for it if safe. Also yes, get out of the overtaking lane.

@@davidhenry3833 "Exactly, I was also taught that. If there are no line markings where the road is wide enough for 2 vehicles and you pass on the left, that's undertaking and you shouldn't do it." Yes, it's road rule 141 No overtaking etc to the left of a vehicle (1) A driver (except the rider of a bicycle) must not overtake a vehicle to the left of the vehicle unless: (a) the driver is driving on a multi-lane road and the vehicle can be safely overtaken in a marked lane to the left of the vehicle

All car drivers should be made to do a week sitting in the passenger seat of a heavy vehicle before they get their licence, see the crap that have to deal with from car drivers with no clue on a daily basis. It’s far safer for the heavy vehicle to do a constant speed in the right lane than to continuously slow down , speed up, change lanes around car drivers that can’t keep a constant speed.
@hilux4x4x33 жыл бұрын
@@daviddou1408 I agree with cut the crap comment re 3 heavy vehicles all jockeying to be in front & speeding up to hang one another out to dry, equally frustrating though is catching up to slower cars in the left lane, overtaking, only to have them speed up & hang you out, in a vehicle with a speed limiter set to 100kph, once you get to 100 that’s it , there’s no reserve to complete overtaking, so your only options are to drop back, pissing off the cars behind you that can’t see the car you’re overtaking speed up , or hang out there , also pissing them off. If people were more conscious of maintaining their speed , it would seriously help. The greater proportion of heavy vehicle drivers don’t set out to piss car drivers off, they are just trying to keep a constant speed. Most drivers, you give them a fair go, they’ll give you one back.

What was the point of that vid? Plus, why was the B-double sitting in the right lane all that time?
@Mooky13002 жыл бұрын
I drive a van and instead of dealing with car drivers who won't let me in when I try to get into the lane about 500m from the turnoff I will simply sit on the right lane for a km at this turn. The car drivers go tearing past me, undercutting me while I sit on the speed limit. It's ridiculous the impatience that is out there. Guess they are invincible and have never had to pick up body parts after an accident.

So what?. There is such rule as "undertaking" in Australia. your lane is your lane, this is not Britain. If you wish to change lanes it is your responsibility to ensure the adjacent lane is clear and you can safely move into. It does not matter if a car on your right is travelling slower it's perfectly legal to pass on the left, just stay in your own lane and drive the speed limit.

what gets me is they say respect truckies but when they are speeding it's a bit hard and trucks are only supposed to do a 100 even when it says 110 what happened to regulating these companies are letting truckies get away with it more crack down needed.😀
@Dats.Travln Жыл бұрын
Trucks especially Collins are speed limited to 100km/h and when you hook a gps to your car you will likely find your only travelling at 96km/h roughly, if you don't want to be tailgated let the faster traffic go and your all good.
