Oh, before I forget. . . I live in a very heavily forested area where the only place I can practice off horse has a 30% chance of a lost arrow after each shoot. I'm now using super reflective short arrow wraps (about 1/2" x 1") to wrap around my fletch tape and the same around the nock end of the arrow. If I lose an arrow, I can go out at night with my hubby's gun light and find that wayward sucker in no time :) I tried using regular reflective tape, but that stuff is so stiff it wouldn't stretch or bend around an arrow. It's possible you could order these in longer sizes and lose the electrical tape altogether. Just a thought.

that helicopter flair. great idea. personally i find sanding the front tip of the feather til it's smooth and putting a drop of glue there protects me from feather nicks. thank yew good show. gare

Good tip Trey. Based on the Turkish twist nocks. I have used this method on plastic commercial nocks, fabricated wooden nocks and bamboo self nocks. It works well.

This is a very nice video. I like the helecopter nock, very cool to share. Can,t U just nock higher to prevent fletching from tearing up your hand?

I'm interested in knowing if anyone has tried 3M heat shrink tubing for this application. Don't know if the temperature required would be safe for the arrow and fletching, but it is being sold for this online. One site mentioned a minimum of 165 f needed, others around 200f.

I like the helicopter nock, Trey! If your arrows are properly tuned to your bow at your draw length, the fletching won't touch your bowhand.

+artsmith100 An excellent tutorial! Every step is crystal clear.

+artsmith100 In most cases you are correct about the arrow tune and fletching. However many short horse-bows (Those 52 inches or less) tend to have short brace heights (under 7 inches), in these instances the arrows bend so much during paradox that the tail end can whip a bit. Also sometimes on a bouncing horse you do not get a clean release in those cases the arrow is tuned to proper shooting, but not to a string plucking release. Under the conditions of less than ideal shooting, with an arrow spined to ideal shooting you can injure yourself with the feathers. Thank you.

Shrink tubing to protect your hand.

Very Clever! Better than buying those 7 dollar fancy fang knocks. Hey, you need to make an arrow tuning video series. I still get confused by the videos who don't address thumb archers.

+Lisa Badger Great! I will get that done this year. I am filming in June when I get back from my Australia clinics. I will do a archers paradox video for thumb shooters.

Can either of you recommend a brand of nock that won't turn into Jaws when you flair them? Maybe something with shorter "teeth"? I think I'll leave off helicoptering for now and just go with a little flairing until I can figure out how to do it without drawing blood.

Is there a belt system in mounted archery? I see you’re wearing a black belt.

Okay, can you help me with this, Trey? I helicopter-nocked about 12 of my arrows, and it was GREAT! --- BUT . .. because -- I assume -- I have short thumbs or fingers or whatever, most of the nocks are now digging into the soft skin right under my first metacarpal joint when I close my index over my thumb. This happens with the leather ring I made and the resin ring I've been modifying. It's worse with the bigger "name brand" nocks that I have. I've actually drawn blood in a few places. Going back to my leather ring glove has give it a rest, but I need to continue practicing with the other two. Any advice?

And it happens when I just make sure I'm touching the very least amount of index to thumb as possible. That is, unless the string slips out of the ring or leather.

I'm surprised you're using a nocking point for horse archery. Any reason you've chosen to put that on a horse bow?
