i once broke my wrist while ice skating in pe class, the teacher didnt believe me and told me to sit for a while to see if it goes away. After ~5-10 mins of me being "shit it hurts, dont go to shock, act cool" the teacher said i could see a nurse. tried to open a door with that hand for a test and it suprisingly didnt have much strenght. It was one shit show to get the ice skates off & haul that shit ~0.7km to the school nurse. it was fractured and it was in a funny angle. still is for a bit. moral of the story: fuck pe

I broke one of the bones in the arm right above the wrist while snowboarding. It was on a jump and i lost my balance a little on the landing and touched the ground with my arm and kept on riding down the rest of the slope. It hurt a little bit in the arm when i touched the ground to regain balance, but very minimal pain so i did not think more about it until i got to the bottom of the slope and was going to loosen the bindings of my snowboard. And then i noticed my right hand was not working... So i pulled up my jacket sleve and there was a big bump where one of the bones in the arm was misaligned and i knew right away that my arm was broken. But it was strange that it was so little pain when i broke it. But later in the hospital when they pulled the arm bone back in alignment THAT was a lot of pain. With two nurses pulling on one side of the arm and a doctor pulling on the other side of the arm with no local anesthesia.

So the DOCTORS didn't even know what to do with mine and wanted me to go home from ER bc an X-ray didn't show a break; because there was too much swelling or it didn't show it at first but when I came back and did another X-ray, it showed a break from one side of the bone, all the way up the shaft and stopped on the other side of the bone. I couldn't believe they missed it the first time.

It is VERY common for the first radiograph of a non-displaced Fx. to be negative until some bone reabsorption at the fracture line has occurred. The spiral fx. that you describe should not have been missed by any doc and never by a radiologist.

Rotating the inside of the palm up and putting the Splint than still on from the under side / top of the arm. In this case Radius and Ulnar are Running parallel to each other reducing pain and stress on nerves and Blood vessels while on the teached methode Radius and ulnar cross each other....

1 Don't tape or strap over joints or wounds 2 immobile joints distal and proximal to the injury 3 Check CMS before and after 4 Splint as found unless traction splint is required (angular frac)
@thcthehonestclone6329
@thcthehonestclone6329 3 жыл бұрын
Another good rule of thumb... if the frac is on an arm, after splinting check CMS, then take a roll of gauze and place it in the patients hand to hold, thus maintaining a "position of function." You will impress docs and nurses alike.

Could you do a video on wraping or not a rib fracture on the field? (Camping, while hiking, in case of somewhere EMS cannot access) I live in a country with almost 0 off road ems capability, so for me, i have been on hikes near rocks, etc. Where should someone fall we would need to extract the patient out of the zone and into a road. I'm a medical student and scout, and have taken plenty of wilderness first aid courses. From the basic, to b-con, to carrying unconcious patients out, etc. But not too long ago i realized i had plenty of practice immovilizing limps and neck, but no rib immovilization.

PrepMedic ok. Thank you for letting me know. I was just thinking of trying to make extra room in my splint pocket of my first-aid pack. Now that I have a few Molle pouches added onto it though, that frees-up space in the main pocket. So, leaving them folded how they originally are, might be ok. Even if I can buy a larger selection of various sizes. I’m just at the SFA with CPR/AED HCP level. Stay safe brother!

QUESTION: What is your opinion of the Recon Medical Combat Splint?
@jasonjohnson626
@jasonjohnson626 3 жыл бұрын
All Recon Medical products are made in China. Granted, that doesn't necessarily mean they won't work, not all Chinese products necessarily fit the stereotype of Chinese quality control. But considering that US-made products that are approved by CoTCCC aren't **that** much more expensive than the Chinese products, I'd avoid rolling the dice with Chinese quality control when buying first aid gear. For example, the Recon Medical knockoff CAT is only ten dollars cheaper than a real CAT tourniquet. And the Recon Medical knockoff of the SAM splint is only five dollars cheaper than an actual SAM splint.

Just Consumers you’re only able to use a traction splint when there’s ONLY a mid femur fracture which is honestly kinda rare for someone to do. I’d there’s any other fracture in the patela, fib/tib, foot they can’t be used
